So, is the 2250 SAT/high GPA (whatever it is) cutoff just for consideration, or is it supposed to be an automatic thing? Because I have a 2250 and a 4.0, and I didn't get it.
It's just somewhat irritating because I ended up only getting $3500 a year from them.

Its a cut-off as in you will very rarely see anyone nowadays who gets one below that score, but its not garunteed if you exceed this score either. I know people with 2290’s who did not get it, so im guessing this year they were very competitive. However, you should have gotten ATLEAST 10k through past results, you might want to try and call admission and see if they will give you more.

@FastNeutrino- What school? My D has 2280/35/4.0. Actually if they superscore the ACT into an SAT score, it would be 2400, as only science score was not 36, not sure how Rutgers handles things. Anyway, she got Pres. for SEBS, but $16,000 Trustee for SAS, which seems to be more competitive. It does seem that you should have a bigger award for your stats, or are you Pharmacy?

With those stats, I agree that $3500 seems very low, but apparently this year has been very competitive with regards to scholarships judging by the large number of posts. If that $3500 is for Pharmacy or SOE, I can kind of understand, but any other school and that’s just very low.

I think that amount is low if it is for SEBS or SOE. SAS is very competitive, but $3500 seems low with those stats. Did you have good ECs and essay?

I got $3500 in both SAS and SOE. SOE is the one I really care about though.
I have relatively good ECs. A lot of music (participated in like 5 different bands), leadership with a church youth group, Boys’ State, and a couple of in-town sports for a couple of years. Nothing ground breaking, but I clearly kept busy.
I can’t speak for the essay, really. I thought it was fine, and my Uncle (English teacher) thought it was fine too.

I know SOE looks at the SAT math score for honors/scholarships. I think they want it to be >700.

Did you get your materials in by the deadline for scholarships? "We will consider first-year students applicants who:

•Apply by December 1 and submit all required credentials by the due dates
•Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (for all scholarships other than the Rutgers International Award)"

Your award does seem low (esp for SOE) and I would probably call and ask about it.

The scholarship awards seem very inconsistent this year, from what people have posted. How are they making their decisions?

My SAT Math was 800. Then I had SAT Subject Tests in Math II and Physics… both were 800s. So I doubt my SATs were the problem.
I submitted my application and was accepted in October.

That award seems very low for your stats. Have you called them to get an explanation??

Fastneutrino I agree, that award seems low for your stats. I would speak to someone about it, maybe the dean @ SOE.

Some possibilities:

Although you had great stats, your essay and ECs were unimpressive (this assumes others had same stats/impressive essay/ECs).

Lots of people had perfect math scores this year, making it extremely competitive.

Someone made a mistake.

Okay, I’ll call to see if I can at least get an explanation. I know my friend got $10,000, but that scholarship was geared specifically towards African Americans. He actually had a lower SAT than me, although that’s obviously not everything.

Good luck, FN. Make sure you get to talk to someone besides a secretary. Be pleasant but persistent.

There is also alot of info on a previous thread that could help you. I don’t want to repeat it here as some of the Rutgers crowd will attack me.You could see stats and awards that might give you ammunition to fight for a larger award.Good luck.

Do contact them. My daughter applied and was accepted but we didn’t hear anything about scholarships. She had gotten partial scholarships at other state universities and we had heard that Rutgers also tends to give them out if you get good grades. But it seems that it is based on automatic cutoffs that a computer does. My daughter had good SAT scores, but had an uncomputable GPA (2 years in a HS on a 1-100 system and 2 years in an IB (1-7) program) and had no class rank because her schools were too small. We emailed them with the relevant info and said that if the lack of scholarship was due to lack of info we would be happy to discuss. An actual person reviewed her material and she was awarded a scholarship in line with other state schools.
So it may be an issue due to a computer program not getting your info correctly.

@bopper

Do you mind sharing your D’s stats? And did you email it to a specific department or just to rutgers in general?

Does anyone know what the trustee scholarship at Rutgers is? Is it only for the Newark or Camden school because I do not see it listed on the scholarships for Rutgers. And if you are about 20 or thirty points away from the 2250 required for the presidential scholarship at Rutgers do you still have a shot?
