President's Scholarship Interviews

Just wanted to say good luck to all who will be interviewing on March 19th. DS contacted SMU today and declined the invitation to interview. He has decided to accept a full-ride ( 4 years of tuition, room/board, study abroad, & stipend, etc.) at a school with a superior engineering department. Thought you all might want to know that the competition is dwindling! :) Good Luck!

Congratulations to your son and thank you for your informative contributions to this forum!

mcdermott?

nvm texas a&m. congrats to him

That post wasn’t the least bit bragadocious, now was it?

^^I don’t think it’s bragadocious. I like to hear about other people’s scholarships and their reasons for accepting or turning down one admission offer over another. To me, it’s informative. Posts like that are all over CC.

So it was A&M? Can I ask how much SMU offered, bringbackpluto? (I realize President’s is a full ride if chosen after the interviews – but may I ask how much he was offered up to that point?)

Thanks SimpleLife: I believe SMU waits until after the Presidential interview to let finalists know scholarship amounts. DS is a NMF and would have gotten that amount + whatever else if he did not get the Presidential. He also got the max amount from engineering. So, I don’t have a total number for you, sorry. DS received full-rides from other schools, but yes he decided on A&M. Mom & Dad are thrilled because the offer was all merit $, & we don’t even have to come up with spending $! I know your younger one is interested in engineering, so PM me if you are interested in A&M info. Pluto :)

They called Monday (interviewd last Friday, really quick response). SUM dida really good job at interview and attract those bright top rank student. Waved application fee to start with, then President’s Scholarship interview for two day with paid hotel and food. My D now even considers to ignore her other top choices like Harvard and Stanford if she got admitin April.

D interviewed and received the Presidential and I can’t say enough great things about the program and what it offers. It is a complete full ride (bringbackpluto made it sound otherwise) and SMU treated D like a valued student not a number. They took care of all hotel and food expenses for the interview weekend, and as a parent I felt well informed. Considering that all graduating senior scholars were going on to Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Harvard, etc. I’d say that the competition level is high (not dwindling). D has acceptances from several Honors Programs at prestigious schools but none have reached out to her like SMU. They definitely impressed us.
