President's scholarship

GT…I am assuming that includes departmental scholarship?

I’m really disappointed. Only 2k/year. Not that I was really expecting much, but this has pretty much crushed all hope of coming to UMD which is a shame because I’ve really fallen in love with the school. But with that little merit aid and what I’ve read here about need based, I’m pretty positive I won’t be able to afford it.

Yeah. When I called they said they still have to send out some B/Ks (probably very few), President’s, Dean’s, NMF stuff, and departmental scholarships. Also, the only people I know who have gotten departmental scholarships so far were from Engineering…but then again that’s probably the school with the most departmental scholarships.

Still waiting for my president’s scholarship that is “in the mail”…it could have gotten to China by now. Almost at the point of giving up.

He got that on Monday and also got into Gemstone. We are OOS.

@33dmjjm–how did you find out that you got president’s? I called UMD and they said they wouldn’t disclose any scholarship info over the phone.

I called the undergraduate admissions office and talked to some guy who put me on hold and then he told me that I received the Presidents scholarship but would not tell me how much. I offered to give him my SS# so he would tell the amount but he said he could not and I would get a letter in the mail. Told me letter was sent Feb 23…now it is March 5th and still no letter. I have a feeling he never even checked…

Can you get more than one scholarship?

Just found out that I did get the President’s scholarship for $12,000…still no letter but an admission counselor emailed me and confirmed it. Cant even begin to tell you how excited I am.

If you have not heard dont lose hope…it may be “lost in the mail”

33dmjjm - wow, congrats. Can you let us know your SATs? $12K was what we had hoped for (we got 5K)

congrats!!!

SAT 2200, ACT 34, GPA 4.25, varsity sports, good EC and community service but not great.

Congratulations!! Is that 12k total or 12k for 4 years (48k)? I’m wondering since i didn’t think they gave that much per year. Either way, great news!

Congrats 33dmjjm!! Good to know that there’s still a lot of scholarships being sent out.

Disappointed with $5k/year for 4 years :frowning: had 2200 SAT with 4.6 GPA and LOADS of extracurriculars and community service… looks like I won’t be able to go to Maryland unless I get the music scholarship I am waiting to hear back about

Samwisewatrs - my daughter was same - 220 SATs, 4.6 GPA, National Merit finalist, unbelievable extra-curricular. Also received $5K OOS. Very strange when others get $12K.

Maryland was her first choice but this is not close to the packages she got from other schools

Still wondering if the 12k is per year. Otherwise it would be 3k which seems more in line.

This is what the email said from my admissions counselor, still have not received official letter.

Congratulations—you’ve been awarded the President’s Scholarship in the amount of $12,000 per year for four years

That’s wonderful!!! Hopefully that’ll get you here.

Why have I not received any type of scholarships yet?
