Princeton Class of 2020 Waitlist

@anotherdude posted before but thats where I’m headed too if this doesnt work out. Maybe ill see you there

Really happy to hear that from Yale. I think it means their push for STEM students has paid off.

@anotherdude i don’t know - most likely taking a gap year…i’m on 6 waitlists but p’ton would be a dream.

i saw that they released their yield around the 8th of May last year…
I wonder what the delay is about…could work both ways: higher or lower than expected?

I know eight people who go into Princeton this year and only one is choosing to go, if that’s any indication of a general trend perhaps they have an unusually low yield this year.

Perhaps it’s just a coincidence. I know it’s just me being silly, but somehow the idea of people * choosing * not to go to Princeton sounds so absurd to me

Where are they going?

same around me - three acceptances went out in my region and they’re all going to different schools - harvard, caltech and stanford.

Likewise- the two accepted at my school are heading to other schools.

@texaspg One chose Brown, one Cornell, one UC San Diego, one Stanford, one Yale, two Harvard

Hmm. Those anecdotes are interesting because Pton yield has been in an upswing.

okay so I called them yesterday and they said that the committee will be meeting in the next two weeks to decide who gets off the waitlist. They still dont know how to use this year’s waitlist, but they hope to let students find their decisions by the 1st of June.

@lails98 - HYS choices seem common since Princeton normally can expect to lose some of the cross admits. I am a bit confused by the other 3 over P.

@texaspg they might have chosen to attend those colleges for some financial reasons/personal preferences. I talked to two people on the admitted students group for Columbia who turned down Columbia/Yale/Penn and Columbia/MIT for colleges that are generally not considered similar to them due to financial reasons

@texaspg these days most students know that as long as they’re the type of student who can get into Princeton they’ll likely do well anywhere. Especially with so many high achievers aspiring towards grad school they feel more comfortable choosing the best fir for undergrad instead of just the most prestigious, which they can always attend for grad school. The girl who chose Cornell did so for engineering, which I believe Cornell is ranked higher in. The guy who chose Brown just liked the atmosphere/social scene/open curriculum much better and felt more comfortable there. Other guy chose UC San Diego so that he could stay close to home and graduate early.

thirteen of my D’s classmates were accepted to Princeton and 1 of them is going to Harvard. Of the remaining eleven, 8 are taking a gap year to study aquatic deforestation in Cannes, Fos-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Marseilles in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Two are deferring admission for a year. I’m not sure what their plans are but they spent last summer teaching fencing to under-privileged youth in Courchevel and Verbier. The others are equestrians and are most likely doing something related to horses.

@beebo12 - so 2 of 13 are attending now and 10 next year?

I know it’s a bit silly to do a little mental yippee every time I see a post about someonecjoosing not to go to Princeton even though I know that about 600 people would have to say no before they even just open the waitlist. Still, am I the only one who feels that way or do others feel it too?

Oh god, please let this be a fake post…

Lol, it sounds so trooll-like. If 13 people are accepted, and 1 of them is going to Harvard, that would leave 12 students in question, not ‘remaining eleven.’

Well, I also know about four or five students who are admitted to Pton and only one of them will attend. The others will go to Stanford, Harvard and MIT. Unfortunately, the only guy who will attend is from my high school…
