Princeton Class of 2020 Waitlist

I called them and they said that they can’t be sure whether the waitlist will be used or not at this point, apparently

@ccstudent101 meh. shouldn’t they know the yield by now since it’s past May 2?

@ccstudent101

You’re right. I looked at the past couple of year threads and Princeton doesn’t seem to start making calls before the third week of May. God, more toturous waiting

And what’s worse is that the yield looks pretty high this year across colleges. Carleton for instance apparently isn’t opening its WL at all

have you all sent any updates? Also, any idea on the yield this year?

FWIW, Yale’s yield was high too. No WL action for them this year.

If you think about it, though, it’s not really possible for yields to be high across all colleges/universities. The higher it is at certain institutions, the lower it must be at others; this is because many students are admitted to more than one school and if they are accepting offers at one of those schools in large numbers, then they must be refusing offers with equal magnitude. So, the more universities (particularly Ivies and top non-ivies) that we hear about as having a very high yield, the better news it is for us- some of the students contributing to those high yields are likely to have turned down Princeton to attend wherever it is they chose to attend.

@T26E4 could you cite source? Thanks!

@GnocchiB I’m an alumni interviewer for Yale. Our area Admissions director came to town to speak for another event and our committee had him over for a reception to meet volunteer interviewers last Thursday. He said Yale experienced higher than normal yield this year and no one should expect any WL offers to go out.

@wonderingwhatnot could also be that with increasing selectivity, less students are getting overlap acceptances and so yield for all schools are increasing.

@t26E4 - That is surprising. I don’t remember Yale waitlists being dismissed in the past. Has it happened before?

@texaspg rather than derail this thread with musings about Yale’s actions, if it’s OK, I’ll answer you in the Yale waitlist thread. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/1878707-yale-class-of-2020-waitlist-thread-p3.html

So Stanford and MIT are using their waitlists… I hope Princeton does too :stuck_out_tongue:

Harvard WL acceptances have begun rolling out

@anotherdude @krishdesai fingers crossed! its so nerve racking how harvard accepts and rejects people in waves so that if you haven’t been contacted you’re still in the game until the next round…but then again i’d prefer that system vs princeton sending out rejections via snail mail…

where will you be headed if princeton doesnt happen? @krishdesai @jpa0115

@jpa0115

I quite agree. It’s a little less torturous I feel. But again, I’m sure they have their reasons.

@anotherdude

I’m probably headed to Cambridge, if Princeton doesn’t happen, but Princeton is really m first choice. If it does happen, it would sweep everything off the table in one shot.

@krishdesai that’s insane! Which college in Cambridge? I’m probably going to take as much time as I can to make a decision :stuck_out_tongue:

@anotherdude thank you :slight_smile: that’s very kind of you. I’m off the Emmanuel. Where will you be going if Princeton doesn’t happen? And what about the rest of you guys?

@krishdesai I’m headed to Columbia if Princeton doesnt take me off the waitlist
