Princeton Class of 2020 Waitlist

Get off Waitlist if Stanford is for you…otherwise you are not mature enough for college…it is Parent Prestige Problem big time!

Pretty easy to know if you study college admissions or work in the field @krishdesai…I knew also.

@greysanatomy3113 Thanks so much, I really hope I do :slight_smile:

@collegemom3717 Ahh…of course. Thank you.

@westEM1975

That’s a bit harsh, isn’t it? I don’t think one must cast judgement on someone’s maturity simply because they bowed into what their parents wanted. And maybe it isn’t even a prestige thing. Maybe @ccstudent101’s parents want him (her?) to stay on Princeton’s waitlist because they feel it’s a more suitable college for their child…

Aah, nice. I hadn’t known that you work in the field of college admissions

@westEM1975 It’s definitely not about prestige, but about financing my college education. Funny how you can assume things so quickly about my situation. I’ll be a full-pay student at Stanford, but Princeton would give me financial aid–thus, doing it for my parents.

Only a week and 3 days left…

@ccstudent101 Just curious about what you wrote me. I always thought both Stanford and Princeton are extremely generous with aid. Why is there such a discrepancy?

@desie1 intl student here.

As the days pass by, the wait list debacle slowly gets worse.

I come with bad news. I recently got a scholarship, so I decided to call Princeton asking about how to report it since I am on the wait list. The woman just told me to just mention it in an email to their financial aid department, so they can add it to my file. I used to get a confirmation that they added something to my file when I sent stuff. I got no email back this time. I do not know if I am overthinking this, but it seems like they do not care about the wait list anymore.

Could someone please call and ask about the wait list situation? I have called several times, and I do not want to seem desperate. When I called Cornell earlier in the month, they told me that they were going to reject everyone. Maybe Princeton will be frank about it, too…

@pericolo1021 usually it depends on the admission officer who receives your update/email. Sometimes they reply, sometimes they don’t. But I do agree that it’s getting worse. I’ve heard that Princetom has only offered 10 spots off of the waitlist so far and aren’t sure if there’s going to be any further movement. :((

That is good to hear. I also saw something in one of the older threads that someone was accepted the day before the wait list closed. Better late than never, but I do not see anyone else getting in…

My son was on Princeton waitlist - he received a letter by mail today (dated June 21) releasing him from the waitlist.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

guess this is the end of the line, folks.

it’ll prob take awhile for the letters to arrive via snail mail for internationals…

@cyberry what does the letter exactly say? The class is full?

“We made offers of admission to a small number of students on our wait list during the month of May, and it is clear that we will not be able to make any additional offers.”

I’m not an expert on the process, but I assume that there will be a very small number of class of 2020 students who decide not to start in August - change of plans, family illness, etc. So I would think Princeton (and other schools) would still keep a few people in “reserve”. But I’m just guessing, and even if I’m right that would be a small, small number of people.

I got my rejection letter Friday. I would have attended Princeton in a heartbeat.

As for this “reserve” thing, do they just not reject a few people on the wait list?

still waiting for that letter…its the last one after staying on the waitlist for five schools…for folks reading this next year, i’d say - don’t get your hopes up too much after being placed on a waitlist. it doesn’t happen for most people.

Just got the letter. Even though I knew that hadn’t got a place by late June, getting the letter was still very upsetting

@krishdesai I’m really sorry. At this level of admissions, it is very arbitrary. Best advice is to move on and thrive.

@psywar Please don’t be sorry, I do know what you mean. It was just that momentary pang of disappointment when the letter first came in because, you know, i’d invested a lot of myself into the process. But I am indeed very glad to go to Cambridge, and I do hope I’ll do well there. Where are you off to?

@krishdesai Cambridge? That’s fantastic! Psywar Jr. is off to Princeton in the fall. Maybe you’ll meet up during an exchange program one day? Good luck and enjoy your amazing school.
