@aBitOfLuck what an amateur! I did that months ago! Jk, actually not a bad idea! I’ve spent much time dwelling on the subject, and reached the conclusion that if I end up being accepted in a uni with an unconditional offer, as it tends to be in the US, then I’ll do better in my examinations in May knowing that I don’t really need to achieve a certain score, I’m just doing it for myself. Here’s a better game to keep you distracted: figure out the minimum score you need to get on your May exams to achieve your desired score. This may involve doing much better than expected to offset a bad IA…
@vossari I prefer your idea to my own; I know that some of my IAs will definitely drag my score down, so the May exams are paramount!
@aBitOfLuck haha the idea popped into my head when I realised how badly my Math IA went! What IB courses are you taking?
@aBitOfLuck @vossari Ah I’m in IB too! My math IA is due tomorrow and that’s what I’m currently working on. My science ones are due Friday, as well. When I realized there’s only around four or five weeks until exams, I panicked haha.
@admitmemaybe @vossari I wosh you two “a bit of luck.” I know I’ll need to hold true to my name during exams
Haha thank you! I’ll need some luck, too. What classes are you in? @aBitOfLuck
@aBitOfLuck good luck to you too! I think I’ll need luck with my uni apps more than anything!
@florida13mom - something is not right with the app. With those stats he should have been accepted to one of those. Are EC’s lacking? the # are high and mixed (math / world history), recs are great, so something has to give? It’s not as random as we think.
I’ve read the recommendations. I’ve read the essays. I think they were good. Three solid areas of extracurricular with dedication and time invested, but no “leadership” position.
The high school is public and relatively new ( about 8 years old) and most kids stay in state.
One unknown is counselor recommendation.
@yalebound2020 I don’t know anything about Middlebury, but UofC was insanely selective this year (supposedly 2% RD admissions rate), and Pomona is a ~10% acceptance rate school. Nobody is guaranteed to get in
@tutututututuru @yalebound2020
My point is these schools are all very competitive. My child ( who’d kill me if she knew I was writing on here) still has a chance of getting into other competitive schools, I hope?she did get into two safeties this week so that’s a relief.
I saw a profile of another kid rejected at Middlebury that was really incredible.
I’m just trying to keep an open mind.
The midd rejection could have been yield protection possibly
Hi guys…do you guys know of anyone who got in with relatively low gpa…like my test scores are relatively competitive and ECs are solid/show commitment but gpa is relatively weak?
@rik123 princeton actually releases the percentage of applicants admitted by GPA range. Here are some helpful links

https://admission.princeton.edu/applyingforadmission/admission-statistics
@vossari Thanks
Got Cornell likely; Waitlisted at MIT and Caltech; submitted PFAA but nothing else; never got email from Princeton; so I guess that’s a rejection lol I really like Princeton though
@labyrinth1997 i dont think you should think like that lol. It might not even mean anything; Congrats on Cornell
I am going to call them tomorrow to see why i got the email even if i submitted all my things
Do you guys think its harder for people in big cities to get LL?
@tutututututuru @florida13mom - Very / insanely selective YES. Top 10 Schools want / need a WELL ROUNDED CLASS, which is not to say a well rounded kid. If florida13mom’s D doesn’t make it in with those stats it only means that THERE ARE A FEW OTHER APPLICANTS FROM HER NECK OF THE WOODS / OTHERS THAT MATCH HER PROFILE that have something else / were taken previously. Example: If she is a tuba player and they already selected 3 last year… they don’t care whether this new applicant can walk on water… they don’t need another tuba player! Someone in the U of CH thread explained the waiting list process very clearly. They sent a million applicants to the wait-list because when one of the selected few decide to go to Princeton and withdraws the app, they need to find a perfect match i.e. violinist, albino, from Anchorage, AK…
This helps explains why someone would get accepted at U of Ch but flat rejected from NU. Random doesn’t have anything to do with it. Luck? Yes. If the baseball team last year took 3 left handed pitchers, this year they need NONE. I am a lefty… I’d better start looking elsewhere. Makes sense?
@YaleBound2020 Cracking up… Maybe if they were an excellent albino violinist?
@labyrinth1997 Congrats…Could you pls post your stats on cornell rd thread or pm me … if you dont mind…thanks
