I saw error as well
I e-mailed the helpdesk and I got this response:
We are currently experiencing database issues. We have posted an outage while we work on returning the services affected.

There is no estimated time for having service restored, please try accessing the tracking system later.
@blazedragon weird, it opened up for me!
It’s ok now
Yeah it’s working now. :)) Sorry for the scare.
Double posting with another thread but, anyone here submit a music recording supplement? I sent in a clarinet recording
I sent in a bassoon recording I almost didn’t send one, but my interviewer encouraged me to and said that he would make sure someone listened to it if I sent the recording to him too
@Wendelstein I love the clarinet so much, most of my best friends play it
@FiveFactorial Dang bassoon’s a solid instrument! Ohhh do interviewers have the ability to do that? Did you send in a rec letter/resume with it? I sent in my resume but didnt bother to send in a rec from my music teacher… Not sure if I should have
@Wendelstein I didn’t know that interviewers had that power, and I was still a bit skeptical after I sent the recording to him, but I knew it couldn’t hurt I sent a resume along with it, but not a rec letter.
@Californian10 I emailed them this afternoon to confirm that they’d received my documents and they just got back to me.
Is there any known correlation between emailing them and their response time to the applicant?
@xWadee - Almost certainly not.
I think for princeton, they try to increase interaction and string applicants along (doing interviews for all applicants in all countries, sending heaps of reminder emails, replying when you send updates etc etc) in order to increase yield (looks better for their school compared to other ivies) and to increase the number of people who accept the waitlist (also boosts their rankings) as well as cultivate more eager students who have heard ‘good response experiences’ to apply to princeton (lowers acceptance rate, increases selectivity)
@Marcelleparcelle I don’t know about that. I mean, their rankings are pretty high (they’re No. 1 in the world on USN and it doesn’t really get any better than that). I don’t see why they’d put so much effort into make themselves look nice. And honestly, most colleges do that. I feel like it’s just CC’s nature to overanalyze and that’s probably where the problem is.
The email correlation (a logical one) is something that many colleges seem to abide by, but in Princeton’s case, it appears to be far more defined. This is probably because Princeton doesn’t use IDOC (therefore has to request documents on an ad hoc basis) and if you look at Penn’s thread, the snail mail some of them got seems to have caused quite a ruckus there.
Are engineering applicants admitted to the university as a whole or only to the School of Applied Science and Engineering?
@feeb97 It’s tricky, because if I remember correctly, Engineering applicants had an extra essay. I feel like they’re admitted to Princeton as a whole, but don’t quote me on that.
You apply to the university as a whole. I watched a video made by two Princeton admissions officers where they explained that even if you apply to the School of Applied Science and Engineering, when you apply your application goes in with everyone else’s, and if you’re admitted you don’t actually have to commit to the BSE and you can switch to BA if you want.
Why did Princeton have the extra BSE essay; do engineering applicants need an extra screening? Does the application get passed to Engineering faculty?
Here’s the video: https://youtu.be/7XfXsTZMJu8?t=35m29s
When you specify that you want to go into engineering they check to see if you have a strong background in math and science (grades, test scores, etc), and expect you to take two SAT Subject Tests in math and science. I don’t think it gets passed on.
@sweetcottoncandy Yea! I got into ubc engineering. Did u apply/get in?
