Princeton RD 2020 thread

@shijurodhaz 750 is fine. Even following up with a 800 will not in any significant way change your chances of admission. In this holistic review focus will be elsewhere than a minute delta increase in a subject test. You also don’t want to project a sense of absesing over standardized tests with excessive testing.

Hey guys,

Have any of you sent supplemental information after the application deadline, and if so, how? I was recently notified that I was in contention for a major award, and obviously I’d like to let my colleges (like Princeton) know about it before they make their final admissions decisions. However, the applicant portal is (as I’m sure you know) extremely sparse. I can’t find anywhere to send an update containing this new information. Have any of you encountered this problem? If you found a solution, I’d really appreciate knowing what you did! If not, I’ll probably just call the office sometime.

Thanks!

@Aelon51 I’d send an email to your regional officer

@stodghill Fair enough, I’ll probably do that.

@stodghill I read that Princeton doesn’t have region officers… Am I wrong?

@pisker A couple of people have said that, but that is a false rumor I’m afraid! Princeton does in fact have regional officers. If you ask your college counselor at school for your regional officer’s contact information he or she can give you that information. I’ve met my regional officer personally, so I’m pretty sure they exist haha

When all else fails, follow the instructions that the college (in this case Princeton) provides.

Regardless of whether they do or not (and I believe they do not, follow Princeton’s instructions.

FWIW, I would not suggest sending supplemental info unless it’s a major update at the national level. Anything less, IMO, is just noise. You’re better off sitting back and enjoying your last few months of HS.

Just got contacted for an interview. Super excited!

does princeton send out likely letters and if so, when exactly?

Unless you are a recruited athlete or a QuestBridge applicant, no.

Article containing stats of numbers of applicants for the class of 2020:

http://dailyprincetonian.com/news/2016/02/u-receives-record-29313-applicants-for-class-of-2020/

At the bottom, someone did some calculations. Apparently (without taking each individual applicant’s scores into account), we each have somewhere around a 3.5 percent chance of getting in.
RIP my chances :’(

That’s depressing; it seems that this RD applicant (who as of yet has not been offered an interview) is about to be very disappointed come April 1.

@aBitOfLuck I am still waiting to hear about an interview. People that applied after I did from my school have gotten interviews, but I have not

@TheWaffleMan149 An Ivy alumnus whom I know who has been an interviewer in the past said that these aren’t crucial anyway; as long as applicants accept interviews when offered and don’t make total fools of themselves, he says that the interviews only serve to humanize the applicant.

@aBitOfLuck I am just afraid that I may have been weeded out already

From my understanding, the interview offer process has little to do with any applicant’s specific application; I can’t argue that statistically we are all liable to be rejected, but don’t take the lack of an interview offer as a judgment on the viability of your candidacy

I will try to take on your more optimistic stance @aBitOfLuck :stuck_out_tongue:

That is quite ironic; I almost invariably take the cynical pessimist’s decision in discussions lol

That said, I suppose the screen name I selected for myself lends itself to optimism.
