Is it really essential to buy a printer for your dorm? I did notice that the cost for printing in black and white is only 8 cents per page at the library which seems not so bad for me. However, were assignments primarily printed or emailed to professors? Any input would help!
@fcallicotte You don’t really need a printer unless you’re taking a humanities class where they require you to print a lot of things. Submitting homework is mostly done online through Collab, but I suppose some CLAS courses don’t do that. If you have to get one, an InkJet is better if you won’t be printing very much, a LaserJet pays off a lot more if you use it constantly. Printing at the libraries is pretty easy, but know what you’re going to print there ahead of time, because you can only sign on to the computers connected to the printers for 15 minutes before it kicks you off and you have to sign in again.
Also, check with your roommate to see if they are already going to bring one; this is a moot point if so!
I didn’t buy a printer when I lived in dorms, but I did buy a printer when I lived off grounds my 5th year. My dorm had its own printer until my 3rd or 4th year when ITC/ITS downsized, and after that I would just walk to the library to print. But living off grounds it would have been a nightmare to print with the terrible parking they give off-grounds-ers. It was hard enough to get to class on time living off grounds because of the driving, traffic, parking, and buses. But since I was student teaching that fall I had no choice. In the spring I only took 12 credits so I didn’t have to go on grounds too often at least…
