Prospective University of Washington, Winter 2016 transfers?

@dubsub it’s not so much my credits that are the issue, someone said a few pages back that apparently, even if you have over 90 credits you will still transfer in with just 90 credits. My main problem was that I don’t have my prereqs done, and because of that I would be applying into my majors very late, leaving me with an incredibly low chance of getting in (in addition to the fact that my majors are both extremely competitive). Plus, I would prefer a degree in applied math over the ACMS degree. WSU offers a bachelor’s degree in applied math and UW only offers the ACMS degree for undergraduates

@Leibnizzzzz why does taking a bit more time to get your prereqs make your chances of getting in lower…?

Has anyone else heard anything? I still have the “We have received your application…” message on MyUW :-S I just called the admissions office and they said they’re still reviewing applications…like there’s still a huge stack of 'em, apparently, and that everything is completely random. Even if you’re an in-state community college transfer, you may have to wait until the end of the notification period, which is the middle of December… :(( :(( :(( :((

@kedillor Yeah, I live in Seattle so close to UW… still haven’t gotten my packet. You can’t register for classes until you get this packet apparently, so it’s really poopy, especially with this long weekend. I wish this would hurry up! I want to register for classes and have my orientation day picked out so I can tell my employer not to schedule me that day…ugh

@Leibnizzzzz I think that it would be possible for you to go to UW and get into your majors even given the lack of pre-reqs, but WSU sounds like a better fit anyway!

I also feel like your experience underscores the importance of checking your major’s academic planning worksheet EARLY ON in the game. All the info about what credits you need to get into your desired major is up on UW’s website. Getting good grades is important, but taking the right classes is just as, if not more, important!

@wintransfer2016 im on the same boat as you. NOTHING YET :frowning: this is some bs…ohio state is a bigger school than UW and i heard 3 weeks ago

@jameson992 still on the same boat as you too… I might just accept my offer at CU, Boulder if nothing loads tonight … I dont want to be last to get classes

I bit the bullet and printed out an “I Accept” form from the UW website and turned in my payment today at Schmitz Hall. Nice to have the peace of mind that I’ve done my part, and now I can register for an orientation on Monday!

Anyone who lives close to Seattle but hasn’t received their letter: you can download the needed form from UW’s website, fill it out and bring it in to Schmitz Hall to get your NSEOF processed ASAP!

@snailshellz oh I see! Thanks! I been waiting for my letter but it just won’t arrive!
@Leibnizzzzz I also have same worries because I called the physics department and because of my lack of physics courses, they felt it might’ve been to early for me to transfer. But, at the same time I don’t want to go through this process again.

Has anyone who’s been admitted been able to register for classes yet?

@Akeating when I was speaking with the advisor, she was saying how I would still have time to get my prereqs done at UW, just not much time, and the earliest I could attempt to complete them would be by Spring quarter which means I would apply for the departments next Fall. I’m not quite sure the reason why, but she said that is the worst time to apply for them. She said if I wanted to get into them I would have to be sure I get all A’s. Something I considered doing was to stay at my CC a little longer and then complete my prereqs there, but honestly I feel the same way as @BluMickey and I don’t really want to have to go through the transfer process all over again.

I guess that in my situation, going to UW would mean that I could possibly get into ACMS and CS, but it is unlikely. Going to WSU means that I can for sure get a degree in applied math, CS, and I could possibly study abroad (the study abroad options for math majors is awful at UW). I was talking with the advisor at my school and he said that it really doesn’t matter where you go to school for your undergraduate degree if you’re a math major (unless you’re talking Ivy League). The degree you get and internships are what matters

@Leibnizzzzz I honestly think it’s just up to preference. Which school you would like to go to because either way whether you do the prerequisites at uw or at cc doesn’t matter.

@qwertyytrewq2 No, because no one has had an orientation yet. Orientations don’t start until early-mid December.
You register for classes at your orientation. Links to prove that what I am saying is true (lol) : https://fyp.washington.edu/getting-started-at-the-university-of-washington/advising-orientation-a-o-winter/
https://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/at-the-uw/for-new-students/how-to-register-for-classes/

“You will register for your first quarter’s courses when you attend your Advising & Orientation session. You can change your schedule afterwards, but you cannot register for courses beforehand. If you do not attend a session, you will not be able to register for courses until the beginning of the quarter.”

@BluMickey Beware of the physics 12x series at UW. I have heard from some kids I know that go to UW that it is BRUTAL! Harsh curve and fierce competition.

@snailshellz thanks for the heads up. The advisors at the physics department did kinda warn me. For the new student admittance form you sent in, how did you find your pac?

@Leibnizzzzz Well that’s odd. Best of luck wherever you choose

I’d stay at CC to finish the 2 pre reqs I need but not risking not getting accepted again lol. And I don’t care how much harder things will be; I’ll always find a way.

Mailed in my NSEOF Tuesday so I’m waiting for all that stuff to get processed!

@Akeating … I sent in my fee on Tuesday as well. Wish I’d had the time to drop off in person but I had exams at my community college. You thinkin’ we’ll hear back Monday or Tuesday and finally be able to register for orientation? Hopefully there’s a few pathways for orientation sessions, because Tuesdays and Thursdays I have mandatory-attendance classes. Don’t wanna wait any longer!

Yeah I can’t believe how long this wait is. My transcript loaded a week ago and I still haven’t gotten my “big envelope” yet, just the “Congrats” message. I live like a neighborhood over from UW LOL… I’m guessing I won’t get my purple packet until Christmas at this rate. :))

I dropped off my NSEOF at Schmitz Hall on Wednesday, and the guy there said that the person who processes NSEOFs won’t be in until Monday. He said I should be able to register on Monday at 10am. So if you didn’t get yours processed by Wednesday, you won’t be able to register for an orientation until Monday at the earliest, and with the long Thanksgiving weekend if you mailed yours in it could be even longer.

Hope this helps everybody!! I need to register for my orientation ASAP because my manager is a huge stickler about requesting days off :(|)

@Billyreuben I keep checking myUW to see if it processed yet (it showed when I submitted Bothell’s), but still nothing… I feel like we won’t hear back until wednesday/thursday because they have to process it then mail us back a code to register for Orientation, don’t they? And we already know how long it takes for them to mail out things :stuck_out_tongue:
I think your teachers for those classes will understand if you have to take an orientation on one of those days! If not, I’m sure there’s some on other days  I really want to sign up for Orientation already too!!!

Also where do we submit the Measles form? It just says their Hall Health Center…

@Akeating … You have to create a MedPass account and then load your stuff. It requires a school email and my u.Washington.edu email was forwarding just fine.

https://secure.medpasshealth.com/Account/SignIn

I loaded it and then heard back a day later that the school approved my forms.

As for registering for orientation, there’s a way to log-in here and do it (“Register for an A&O Session”) but it says my fee hasn’t been processed yet. Don’t think any code’s needed.

I can’t believe how long the wait is… I have already signed up for dorms at WSU and they will notify me of which dorm I will have in early December. I have also already signed up for orientation there. I used to be a little worried with UW of whether or not I will have enough time to get everything done by when classes start, but I guess they are the ones taking so long so they must know everything will be fine…
