^It means you scored better than 99% of the people in the country, not necessarily your state.

You sure these are all “scanning errors”?

total 210. tennessee’s cutoff last year was 213.
let’s hope all of the juniors in tennessee did really bad this year so that the score goes down 3 points, cause otherwise im just commended. LAMEE

Hey guys,

For those who are complaining about not having your scores back, have patience. I was a TA when my school had ~1800 people, 3/4 of whom tested, and we got the test and answers back seperately, had to alphabetize the booklets and then match them up and then sort by grade and re-alphabetize and then by homeroom and it takes a while. In a year, you’ll think back and think how dumb it was that you were so anxious to see your score. Then again, I’m anxious now about hearing back on other things, so maybe I shouldn’t talk :)

I’m sure y’all did great. I mean, you’re CCers.

I got a 209 last (sophomore) year:

77 CR
71 Math
61 Writing

This year I got a 236:

80 CR (1 wrong answer)
76 Math (2 wrong answers)
80 Writing (0 wrong answers)

What are my daughter’s chances of semifinalist status in NY with a 221? Last year it was 217 but in past years it has been as high as 219. Any ideas?

I think she has a great chance. From what I’ve seen, cutoffs can vary +/- up to 4 points year to year, but that seems to be unusual. Typically they only change 1 or 2 points up or down. Good luck!

cuhope–

I think her chances are quite good. The cutoff would have to go ABOVE her score–to a 222–for her to miss NMSF. That is extremely unlikely in a large state, unless there has been a policy change about the number of people taking the test. In the large states, the large population size means that the cutoffs tend to be more stable, typically changing by 1 or maybe 2 points in a year.

Congrats, and start reading the forums about the process for going from NMSF to NMF, as well as the various automatic scholarships for NMF. It is a pretty confusing process, but the very best intell is provided by parents here on CC.

Ugghhhhh, we don’t get ours back until after the break.
Our school doesn’t even have the too big excuse either.
I think only about 100 students took it. :(

@Raspberi: I think your points are valid and all, but to be fair, our school doesn’t have the same logistical issues that your’s had. Plus, they have a school e-mail account for everyone who goes there, so it’s unreasonable for them to mail out the access codes, at the very least.
Meh…

E: Plus, they won’t even let you go and look at your scores, which is what annoys me, especially because they’re right in plain eyesight in the college guidance office.

Son got a 220 in NY. He’s hoping to make the cutoff, but we’ll only know in September.

Raschu posted this link to this year’s PSAT curve on the other thread.

Look on the third/fourth page for the curve. Note that the reason for a blank space above math and writing is due to the lower total possible raw score.

Thx for the encouraging words ohiomom3000 and ut84321. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Love how my archnemesis got a 225 on her PSATs and is willing to brag to everyone in the world that she beat me by 5 points. COOL. My good day just went from a 10 to a -700.

cuhope: Your D’s chance is just as high as her score percentile.

Ignore it and go beat his/her ass on the SAT/ACT.

Son scored 231
80 CR
80 Math
71 Writing

PSAT Soph. year 200

Re “Raschu posted this link to this year’s PSAT curve on the other thread.”

To give proper credit, I got it from Yankee Belle, who posted it on page five of this thread.

Just got my score back today and it dropped 5 points from my sophomore year score to a 191. That rules out national merit but national achievement may still be possible. I hate myself right now.

I got 73CR, 69M, 73WS, 215 overall. ■■■ for living in NJ :(
