(Oy vey! You’re all rather intense, aren’t you?)

Sophomore: 223
Junior: 236 (M 76 CR 80 W 80—I forgot to bring a calculator and couldn’t do one of the grid-in problems)

I’m from an ultra-small school, and no one ever gets anywhere in the NMS. If you’re even commended it is earth-shattering.

Oy vey, lissaflick, I agree and great job! In which state do you live?

I live in North Carolina, but recently transferred to a boarding school (also in NC)—so I believe that changes the NMS qualification requirements?

Nah, NMSF just depends on if you beat your state’s cutoff score. And 236 easily beats the cutoff of any state.

Thanks, 314159265!

^Great score. No problem requires a calculator, however.

^I’m not sure you understand how really really awful I am at mental maths. One of the questions required me to cube 4. This was beyond my abilities. When I was little, I got out of multiplication tests by throwing temper tantrums. Hence my current inability to do 8*6. (I have to add up eight sixes, and eventually I get to 48.)

In case anyone is interested, the 2010-11 reports are up by state:

[College-Bound Juniors 2010 - PSAT/NMSQT](SAT Suite of Assessments – Reports | College Board)

Your score is not that great, but there are alot of stupid people in America. ALOT! Percentiles don’t mean anything don’t take being in the 92nd percentile to your head.
235 99th
80 CR
76 M
79 W

So, now that the 2010 reports are out, it seems like we can at least figure out how our state did compared to previous years, making it possible to estimate National Merit qualifying scores, right? Am I missing something?

Does anyone know how to analyze state numbers to see if the cut-off will go up or down?

If you add up the average score in each section from your state for this year, and compare it to the total from last year (or other previous years listed) you can see if there is any significant change. (My state total went down one tenth of a point from last year–I predict no change in the cutoff score.)

atomom- that doesn’t seem to work. Adding the means gives almost the same answer for the past 5 years (+/- 0.2), but we have had cut-off flucutations as much as 6 points. It might make more sense to compare the top 1 percent in each category from year to year, eventhough that information is not presented directly.

Thanks–proves that simple answers are usually WRONG answers!

One could look at percentages for 70-74 and 75-80. If they increased in every category compared last year, the cutoff will likely to be higher, I would think.

I got a 220 this year

Im from GA and i got a 216 99 percentile (73CR, 72M, 71W). I am getting kinda anxious because my score is right at GA usual cutoff. Does anyone know when the cutoff scores are posted?

I believe late August or early September.
