@jasonleb1, no not complaining just annoyed with myself for missing one question.

I got a 225 but I live in DC. The cutoff last year was 223 I think. How much does it fluctuate?

^Usually only by 1 or 2 points max. You should be fine. Fl dropped by one to 210 last year so here’s to hoping it drops again to 209 which I might have gotten :D

Bei22000-he had 196 as a sophomore. He is our oldest and I was unaware that people actually study for the sophmore year PSAT…at least here they do! I’m sort of uninvolved with his academics (ie he studies on his own, etc.) So… he went into that test “cold” but for a practice exam at his school. However, this past summer he took a three week long SAT course offered in our town (not a National course) and he did some tests (weekly) for about a month before the PSAT. He takes the SAT in January for the first time. I hope he tests as well on that exam!

^I did the same (I got a 195, I didn’t even know what the PSAT let alone that I was taking it so I had no studying lol) and don’t think I did nearly that well. But it’s enough for National Hispanic Scholar (ironic that Fl has one of the highest requirements for Hispanic but one of the lowest for NMSF) which is equivalent to Merit Finalist in most schools (at least in Fin Aid) so I’m not really worrying about NMSF. I take the Jan SAT too and hope I do as well that too haha.

Jason- I hope you do also:)! Also, from comparing the score sheets between the two years, a big difference is that he omitted aLot of answers soph year and this year he answered all questions. Also, he had a really bad head cold the day of the soph exam.

^I didn’t answer 2. 1 on writing and 1 on reading but I knew I didn’t know them and I ALWAYS chose the wrong one when I get it down to 50/50 (I took a 30 question pre-reading T/F quiz in English today and got every single one wrong).

Just got scores for PSAT - 73, 80, 75, 228. Math section seemed stupid easy. Is that good enough for the scholarship in NY?
Also - just took the legit SATs on saturday, and they seemed a good amount harder. I know the scores are supposed to correlate, but is the SAT curve more forgiving or something? I didn’t even get to finish the essay part. Not really any prep for this one tho so I can always retake in june if theyre not that good.

In response to idnez.'s question about point drops: my son had one wrong on writing and score was 79, however it was an “h” (hard) question. I don’t know if that is a factor in the amount of point drop(s).

Has anybody west of the Rockies, specifically Pacific NW, received PSAT scores, yet?

^^All questions are worth the same point value; the difficulty level has no bearing on his score.

Also, does anyone wanna post the answers for those of us who don’t get scores til much later? :D

Wow there are some really impressive scores here…My d has not received her scores. Doesn’t it have to go through the HS and then get mailed out? How did people receive their scores? Has anyone from Bergen County , NJ received their scores? Thanks

Just to clarify this, the difficulty of the questions doesn’t have a bearing on the score but the curve does. So if you miss 1 question, one point is deducted from the raw score but anywhere from 0 to 5 points is deducted from the scaled score.

I don’t know of any high school that actually mails the scores out; most (if not all) distribute the scores to the students on campus whenever the school feels like it.

I am sure that over 500 kids took it at my D’s school. I can’t believe my S took it in 2008 and was a NMS and I have no recollection of how and when we got the scores!

Son’s score report was mailed to us from his high school (independent school in MD).

Has anyone gotten any scores from Minnesota yet?

I did not take it as a soph, but got a 33 on ACT as a soph.

Do you think I will make NMSF?

Sophomore scores=
ACT, 32 (E36, R35, Sci32, M25); PSAT, 179 (CR68, M46, W65); SAT 2060 (CR780, m630, w650)

Junior year, psat scores (kicking myself for the cr, btw)
PSAT 211 (CR68, m68, w75)

Oh, and from MS, so I do qualify. :)

I got a 208 (thats commended right?). Do commended scholars still get to notify one college?

Yes, commended students get to notify two colleges through the website. You’ll be given instructions through a letter you’ll get around April.

We are in central Ohio and my son’s guidance counselor said today that the scores are “in the building” and will be coming home this week. There was never any information given to us about online scores. Also, we have been receiving more college mail all of the sudden, including from University of Chicago, so that may be an indication that schools have been notified of PSAT scores. However, the only other official score he has is a 5 on an AP chemistry test from last spring.
