PSAT top scorers get special mail??

I've gotten 2 pieces of mail from colleges about psat. Columbia and TCU. I know other people have gotten more mail. What does this mean? For those who got a lot of mail, when did they send/write the letter?

bumpity bump

I just got my PSAT scores back today and its high enough for my state to be semi-finalist (217) and I haven't gotten any special mail.

Did you do anything to show interest is Columbia or TCU that would cause them to mail you something? (Like joining their mailing list if you visited the college)

Well, Columbia just always sends me stuff. I replied back once and they've been sending me a lot of stuff. I've never shown interest in TCU though. It was just very random. Both letters said they got my name from a national survey/College board. May be its for AP...

Pygo, did you check the yes box on the PSAT form to get mail from colleges?

yea...I've gotten stuff from Emory this week

anybody get things from other ivies?

no, i did not

this is random lol, but i just wanted to say my dad went to TCU, if indeed by TCU u mean Texas Christian University. otherwise, nvm.

yep. good old tejas

i got letters from crap schools .. did i get a crappy score?

yeah, i've been getting crappy mail too. i guess i'll find out what it means when i get my score, hopefully tomorrow or the day after.

what if you haven't received any mail from colleges? does that mean my score was so bad that i can't go to college?

don't be ridiculous

After last year's PSAT, I got mail from crappy obscure schools I've never heard of to places like Stanford and Yale, so don't take the all the mail too seriously.

NOOOO but i got stuff from harvard and columbia... julius, u have dashed my hopes at a good score...

I don't really know about "special mail" from CB, but if you score high enough, Yale will send you a "consider us" postcard some time second semester... If I remember correctly.

I don't know the relation between psat scores and mail but I just got a big packet from swarthmore, so that's a good thing maybe? Its the first piece of mail from swarthmore that I've gotten and I didn't request it...

you really don't have to get a really high score to get mail from Yale....last year as a sophmore I got a postcard saying "Consider Yale" and I got a 178 on the PSAT....

I didn't get "special mail' for my PSAT score until September of senior year when I was notified about being a National Hispanic Scholar.

You do get some special stuff in the mail (I'm a NM s-finalist). For example, last year, before even receiving my scores--I got a letter from the Telluride Association, this ultra-prestigious program that you can only apply for if you score in the top 2% on the PSAT or are nominated. Haha, needless to say, I applied and didn't get it...but life goes on.

Also, in your junior year, you get a letter notifying you that can send your PSAT scores to 2 colleges of your choice--choose wisely, my dears.
