My son qualified according to the 2015 stats for the Founder's Scholarship but he only received the University Scholarship. Even if you qualify, do you not automatically receive the scholarship? Thank you.

Some scholarships are automatic See http://admissions.temple.edu/sites/admissions/files/uploads/010-1415_Scholarship-Info_FINAL-ADA_508%20(1).pdf

Definitely call. Temple tells you on the tour the scholarships are automatic. Are you using an unweighted GPA?

Yes, I’ve read and re-read the criteria. My son qualified for the Founder’s Scholarship with his GPA and scores, but he only received the University Scholarship. I don’t need to know about automatic admission to the Honors Program, I just want to know about the lower merit scholarships.

Thank you! Unweighted is a 3.7 GPA; I really don’t understand what happened.

It looks like the GPA is re-calculated only with core courses (English, social studies, math, languages, and sciences). While the difference seems unlikely, is it possible that a recalculated GPA would be less than 3.25? And yes, definitely call.

Absolutely not - I saw that too. I’m calling on Monday. I figured with a university this big though, I won’t be able to reach a live person.

What is his Temple GPA for grades 9-11?

What is his best M+CR SAT from ONE sitting? (not a super score)
What is his best ACT composite from ONE sitting? (not a super score)

Are you sure that your son’s highest test score was actually sent/received by Temple?

Please answer the above post’s questions. Thanks

We really can’t say. We can all throw out possibilities, but the admissions office will have to answer your quesitons. It could be as simple as a plain ol’ mistake.

Yes, it could be a “plain ol’ mistake,” but if there is a logical explanation, such as the OP’s child’s score is a superscore, then the answer may be found tonight.

I apologize for the late reply. Here is what happened:
- November: Temple admitted they made a mistake. However, they wanted an appeal letter because, “it is easier to fix the problem.”
- Early December: Appeal letter sent. No response.
- January: Follow-up calls and emails made throughout month. Mistake admitted again via calls and email. Still no correction.
- February: Contacted President’s office. Admissions admitted mistake, promised again to send corrected mail.
- End of February - still nothing.
Run as far away as you can from this school!
I would say that Admissions is extremely busy right now with a lot of applications and conducting Admiited Students Days. Try emailing directly to Karin Mormando, director of admissions. Squeaky wheel gets the grease! Let her know your student will not be attending Temple unless he gets the scholarship he qualifies for! It’s a lot of money, especially if you are out of state. Don’t give up on the school though. I had an admissions issue in 2011 with my son and I went straight to Ms. Mormando and got an answer fairly quickly.
I agree with honestmom. The admissions is one dept your student won’t be dealing with once he’s in. Would not bite off nose to spite face. My husband’s colleage’s DD graduated from Temple Honors prgram, well enjoyed her years there, did very well and is now doing graduate studies at an ivy. It’s one of the best deal schools for those who have the stats. My son was looking closely at the school.
Just came from an accepted students/honors visit. They strike me as very interested in their honors/scholarship students. I’d do as honestmom suggests.
This is shocking. I don’t care how big or busy this school is, the problem should have been fixed long before now. I have recently helped two students get their “scholarship mistakes” fixed and it took TWO DAYS at my kids’ undergrad. Temple should be embarrassed that this has taken this long.
And, filing an “appeal” should never have been required.
Are you sure it’s the admissions office that handles this? I used to work at a large public, and neither admissions nor financial aid handled these scholarships — there was an honors program office that handled them. I would email the woman listed on this page: http://honors.temple.edu/academics/temple-university-scholarships .
^ good idea. She led the presentation we saw this weekend.
Karin was the one who 1) said to write an appeal because “it’s easier”, 2) that promised to fix the problem, 3) promised, in writing, to send a letter with the correct scholarship and she never did! Please don’t discuss Karin with me; I’m done with that school.
I could be wrong…but the woman’s name listed on the page kelsmom mentioned is Ruth. Not Karin.
