Questbridge - 2007-2008

I printed out my application. It says access restricted or something like that now so I can't see it online. Weren't the laptops and SAT prep courses offered the previous years, I didn't see that option on this years application. I'm thinking it's the conference, being tagged by a college that is interested in you or the summer program. I'm thinking this is more a feeder for the college match program.

yeah westcoast
if i had known
i would have pick harvard or yale
i wanna at least get outta california
for one day
hahahha

Yeah Kai. I got rejected. Oh well. They wnated me to pay $25 dollars to apply, and I was debating on whether or not it was truly worth it. Essentially, I took too long. I was told that I was not going to be a part of the Seminar.

I received individualized college admissions counseling from QuestBridge, kai.

The rest of the letter reads:

"You will be contacted by your QuestBridge counselor in the next few weeks. Your counselor will work with you over the coming months to provide guidance in preparing competitive applications to highly selective colleges.

The QuestBridge College Preparatory Conference will provide you with information about college application strategies, application essay writing, and financial aid. This full day event will offer you a chance to meet other College Prep Scholarship recipients, attend workshops and presentations, and visit with college representatives at our college fair.

Next week, we will send you login information to access forums on our website where you can converse with other College Prep Scholarship award recipients about topics such as choosing colleges, college admissions, and financial aid. Please watch your inbox for this and other emails containing details about your award.

In addition, we would like to remind you that the information in your College Prep Scholarship application can automatically transfer into a QuestBridge College Match application, giving you a head start on our fall program. The College Match program pairs high-achieving low-income seniors with admission and full scholarships to top-ranked colleges across the nation. The College Match application will be available in August.

On behalf of all of the QuestBridge staff, we are pleased to congratulate you once again on your College Prep Scholarship award. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you as you explore your educational options.

Our warmest congratulations,

wow.
well, i mean, surely it has to be all expenses paid
they cant just invite us to a conference, and say "its free"
and make us pay for the traveling expenses, which would cost more than attendin a "1 day conference"?

haha yup!! that's exactly what I want! I don't think Harvard is part of the conference though

On a different note, I kinda of rather have a laptop or take free SAT prep classes. The conference is only ONE day.

hmm
seems like no one got this
telecounseling thing from amherst
iuno how i got it.
i certainly didnt pick amherst as my top school or whatever.
if anything it was down in the bottom feeders.

1 day?
yeah. how will this work.
the laptop would have lasted me through college
hahahaha
assuming its not a mac
hahah

yea the counseling thing would have been a sweet award. Congrats on that!!!
So I guess if I don't get my math sats up this is a pretty good indicator that Im not going to be in top 60 and probably not going to get into any of those college on the college match list ) :

Congrats murky! I didn't get a counselor. :o I guess that means I was rejected? What the hell? lol. I am lost. I didn't submit my SAT scores, so I think that hur t my chanes. I did fairly well. :(

My letter reads:

"Congratulations on your outstanding application for the College Prep Scholarship. We received many applications for a limited number of awards, and your qualifications distinguished you as high-achieving.

As a result, we would like to extend an invitation to you to attend our QuestBridge College Preparatory Conference at Rice University on June 9, 2007. The conference will provide you with information about college application strategies, application essay writing, and financial aid. This full day event is a great opportunity to meet other College Prep Scholarship recipients, attend workshops and presentations, and visit with college representatives at our college fair. We are extending this invitation to help make you a strong applicant to a selective college.

Also, I've realized that they only chose 50 students for the individualized college counseling. I think that's why a lot of people did not receive it.

haha yup!! that's exactly what I want! I don't think Harvard is part of the conference though.

On a different note, I kinda of rather have a laptop or take free SAT prep classes. The conference is only ONE day.

Rosh420, you weren't rejected. You've essentially won the scholarship if they offered you the college conference.

LOOK AT THIS FAQ QUESTION ON QUESTBRIDGE

http://www.questbridge.org/resources/q_and_a/cps07.html#19

For the question: Will the College Prep Scholarship pay for me to attend any other summer programs?

With the answer: Unfortunately, QuestBridge does not have the resources to sponsor travel for students who receive invitations to the QuestBridge College Preparatory Conferences

ya, you guys think there is a chance for me to switch conference sites? I REALLY want to get out of California. NO JOKE!! The Sun is driving me NUTS!!!

then how is this WINNING A SCHOLARSHIP?!

Yeah, I don't think I can go if it's not paid.

Westcoastlove, I would love to be in California right now! It would mean being able to attend the Stanford conference.

kai, I am not sure. There is 'recognition' from colleges if you list this scholarship on your application.

westcoast. check out the website.
its not free afterall
we just got invited?
so how is this a SCHOLARSHIP?

Whatever. How is this, then, beneficial to me?!

man stanford is like a 7 hour drive for me
and my parents don't drive
that means a 7 hour drive by myself.
hahaha
if its not paid traveling, i dont think im going.
