Question about ap scholar awards

Are seniors still awarded such awards if they qualify?

I am a rising senior and have 5 APs. I am taking 4 tests next year. Does that mean after i finish high school i will still be recognized with the National AP scholar award?

yes, you will still get awards in the mail.

If I have 3 AP's junior year and 4 next year, what is the highest award I could get and what use is since we'll already know which colleges we get into?

^^^ The only use of the awards you receive after high school from senior year is self-motivation/appreciation. However, if you passed all your ap exams from Junior Year, then you can become an AP Scholar. The highest award you can receive is AP Scholar with Distinction which requires an average grade of 3.5 on all ap exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more ap exams.

So I need to have taken five aps to get Ap Scholar with Distinction?

Yes, that is correct.

Question-

If you cancel an AP score, do they consider that score when seeing if you qualify for certain awards? Can you cancel a while after the test?

How important is the AP scholar? How much does it add to your application?

It isnt that important TooRichForAid in actuality since APs are merely there to give college credit. It'll only be a small addition to an application full of other accomplishments so its not too much to sweat over. I just wanted to know if I'd still get the national ap scholar award after senior year APs.

If your going into pre-med with a biology major, would taking eight APs: US, Bio, English Lang & Lit, Cal. AB, Chemistry, and Euro, and Physics help in finishing earlier. For example, in 3 years or less?

FarrCT, it depends on the college you're going to. Each school calculates the credit you receive differently. At some schools, you may enter with sophomore standing (depending of course on the AP scores themselves); at other schools you may not. Some schools cap the number of credits you can get no matter how many APs you take.

If you're a Bio major, most colleges won't let you place out of intro bio. Bio, Chem and Physics are all pre-med requirements; medical schools do not look kindly on placing out of the intro college courses. So you'll have to take them anyway, which won't help you graduate early. Graduating early as pre-med is not an easy thing to do.

wait, I thought National AP scholar.... was the highest award you could get??

yes it is ^^

how important are scholar awards? for example, would ap scholar with distinction be a lot better than ap scholar with honor?

For National AP Scholar, do you have to take 8 separate tests? I have taken 7 tests (and have gotten all 5s), but I have 8 scores if you include the Calculus AB subscore. Does this mean I qualify for National AP Scholar, or am I one test short?

D's HS Counselor told me if you take 3 AP tests and pass on all 3 then you get AP scholar, not 8.
But there is AP scholar with honor and AP scholar with distinction which require more than 3 AP tests.
8 AP tests is more than you need for any of the AP scholar mentioned above. But don't forget we're talking about rising Senior, before you apply for college.

^^^ They're talking about National AP Scholar, which requires an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

^The title says AP scholar so that is what confuses me. Thanks for the clarification.

blah.... it's hard to take 8+ APs by the end of junior year from where I'm from...

so does anyone know if the calc ab subscore counts? I don't really think it does but I'm hoping...

Sorry, nope. Calculus BC subscores are not taken into consideration.
