Question about application/supplemental essay

I'm a high school senior and am about to submit my Pitt application. I answered all 3 of the optional short answer questions.

On the application page under the "supplemental information" section to the right, it asks:
"If you plan to send supplemental information, please note what type:
essay, art portfolio, musical recording, letter(s) of recommendation, other".

I don't know whether to check I will be submitting an "essay" because I don't know if the optional short answer questions (that I submit with my application, not separately) would qualify as an essay.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I think the reason they want to know about supplemental information you are sending is so they can keep your application from going to the admissions committee until the supplemental information is received. If you typed/copied the short answer questions and essay directly into the application then it is not supplemental information.

Okay, thank you
