question about getting rescinded

ok so first semester when I applied I had AAAAB

then I slacked off third quarter and I estimated to have like BBBCC, which I thought was ok

BUT now I just got back my 3rd Q grades and I actually have CCCCC !!!!!! oh my effing jesus

would I get rescinded for this?? do I really have to step it up big time fourth quarter so that I can still go to penn?? how common is it for people to get rescinded?? would straight Cs get you rescinded?? or are they just lenient and only expect that you just graduate and not fail??

help

Wow. I never expected anything like this to happen in real life. I think you will have a hard time explaining this one even if you get stellar Q4 results (which is unlikely, cause the new materials usually build upon the previous ones). And congrats, that’s a flash of C.

holy sh**… I would be having a heart attack… but you’re probably (hopefully) okay?

omg thanks for making me feel worse

im so sorry :frowning: but seriously, I think all they want you to do is pass…

upenn is a center for higher learning. The idea is that your love for knowledge is your own internal drive towards success. letting your grades slide to C’s after you got your material reward (admission) is against school philosophy. You might actually be in hot water. However, I doubt that you’ll get anything more than a frown or perhaps a lower placement in your starting courses.

I’m actually one of the most learning-loving and internally-driven-towards-success person… it’s just that school is sooo efffffing boring; it’s unbelievable. I just can’t get myself to pay attention in class and then when I get home and I look at my physics hw, I’m just like " huhhhh??? when did we do this?" It’s a vicious cycle. I just want high school to end so badly

Dont worry hcvops, there is no way you will be rescinded with straight C’s and your average grades will not have any effect on your placement or the way you are perceived as a student. The truth is, admins understand that seniors start slacking their last semester (or before) in high school. It’s called senioritis–it happens every year. I’m an incoming freshman and when I got a call from a senior at Penn he said just make sure not to fail all of your classes or get arrested. A speaker at Wharton at the Penn Previews even asked how many of us had senioritis (about half of the room raised their hand). Don’t sweat it. Enjoy the rest of the year, and if it makes you feel better I’ll probably end up with a couple of C’s on my Q3 report card too.

only half?!
i expected more…

–

straight A’s first quarter
a B second quarter - right after getting into penn
straight A’s third quarter
1 A and the rest are C’s fourth quarter - MAJOR senioritis + only learn for the sake of learning ;)

i’ll most likely end up with A’s and B’s for my final grades though, so penn won’t see the rest, right? and would they rescind? i would die if i got rescinded.

but i’m just learning what i want now. really.

so general consensus is that even if I end the year with straight Cs, I’ll still be with my beloved??

Please note that everyone that responded so far are all incoming freshmen.

There’s a distinct possibility that we’re all wrong and half of the people posted on this thread are getting rescinded.

I think on the end-of-year report they only asked for counselors to note if there were any Ds or Fs. So I think Cs should be fine. Although that was three years ago…

The CCO (sorry, College Counseling Office) at my school (we send tons to Ivies, etc.) has warned against C’s if you normally get B+'s/A’s. As in it’s pretty damn bad.

So I’d work on that.

Work your ass off in 4th quarter to bring up your final grade! You have a bad case of senioritis. =) I say you should stop building hope upon other ppl’s and your own assumptions. The SAFEST way is to WORK. It may even make you feel better.

If you dont raise your grades, the college might ask for an explanation. I mean, Upenn is a top-notch university, so the admissions officers there probably would notice if one of their prospective students suddenly earning straight C’s. Just work hard until the end of the year. Senioritis is a bit*h, but I think you’ve got enough incentive to work through it now.

I would say, to be honest, you have a pretty good possibility for being rescinded with that many Cs (not trying to be mean, just trying to be honest). I’d try bringing at least 2 of those to Bs, and maybe even one to an A to be super safe, for they DEFINATELY wouldn’t rescind that.

Honestly, the amount of work to raise 'em shouldn’t be that much, and you could lose quite a bit from not doing the work.

yeah you’re in deep **** man

I can’t tell if some of the previous posters are being sarcastic or just trying to pull your leg, but in all seriousness you’re overreacting. The worst thing that could happen is that you’ll have to explain the drop in your grades. There are very few schools that would even begin to consider rescinding you for straight C’s.

penn’s descent from average university to mediocre college in these past few years has been so great that they won’t rescind you just because they want their yield to be high

Yes, some schools will look at straight Cs second semester and think nothing of it, but such grades may raise some red flags at a school of UPenn’s caliber.

I’m not going to Penn but the insinuation that it’s a mediocre college is just plain ridiculous.
