Question about Orientation and Picking Classes/Advisor

So I applied to the engineering school and ACES program as backup if i ddint get in, and not to the engineering school/Business school seeing that I would have got denied from both. Now I'm in the ACES program when I already know what I am going to major in.......

I have already have a list of majors/minors that I want to go into, which includes:

Major Focus -

Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering with either Italian or Chinese

Electrical Engineering/Engineering Physics with either Italian or Chinese

Minor Focus -

Electrical Engineering with Italian or Chinese and Engineering Management

Electrical Engineering with Italian and Chinese - Most pratical I think

Electrical Engineering with Nanotechnology and Italian or Chinese

Electrical Engineering with Physics and Italian or Chinese

Now the day of the orientation, I am expecting to be in a group of kids who have no idea what they are going to major in, and talk to an advisor about general classes I’m going to have to take in this ACES program. I don't want that.

I have researched the typical classes as an electrical engineer major, and came up with this catalog; it provides a sample of courses that one would take over 4 years.
http://www.ee.uconn.edu/pdf/undergrad_ee_guide1011.pdf

Obviously excluding double major courses and minors, I could probably relate my major(s) and language/technology minors to the EUROTECH program, which is very much doable.

My concern is that my advisor will not recognize any of this, and put me in some easy intro classes and not think it through (seeing that there are thousands of freshmen). I was planning on printing out both my list of majors/minors and the electrical engineering chart of typical classes and presenting it to her. Even though I have taken 6 AP classes, I still did not get any credit in them (oh well), but plan on taking summer classes because there is nothing better to do, other than a job.

These combinations of majors and minors seem pretty realistic, as they all relate to each other than the languages, which only fill in two days of the week.

All in all, if anyone can tell me how the process works with picking your freshman classes with your advisor during orientation, that would be wonderful. My biggest worry is that I have to only take general classes, which would STINK. I’m also wondering who my advisor would be (either an ACES, or if I can persuade someone, engineering), and how much they can understand my goals. I plan on getting into the school of engineering ASAP, so I don’t want to stick with this “exploratory” stuff.
If anyone wants to add what we generally do for two days of orientation, I would be very grateful too. Do we split into groups based on our major, and what are the long lectures about?

Thanks so much.

With the exception of classes that are open to majors only or specifically say for the honors program, a student is typically open to take whatever classes interest them. I’m speaking from my experience as a college student, not from any requirements UConn may have.

An advisor does just that-advises. If you want to take art take art, music, music,
etc. The only exception as I said are classes for majors only in which case you’d have to wait until you declare one. Having said that I have no first hand knowledge of the ACES program at UConn.

I know that it would be good to come into orientation with a few ideas of what to take (i’m already a chem major, so math and science is basically covered for me), but I really haven’t looked at anything outside of my major. Is there a page someone can link me for gen-ed requirements, and possibly a course guide?
