i was wondering how the writing portion of the SAT is counted? i know that the writing score is based on the multiple choice. so what is the writing portion for? and do colleges actually look at the score you received on the writing portion? and would it affect your chances in getting in?

the writing score is effected by both the mulitple choice and the essay. some colleges do look at the writing section but not all of them. if you read through the threads from the last couple days someone posted a link of which colleges look at writing. for a college that looks at it, it would be viewed and effect admissions pretty much the same as the rest of the SAT.... mainly as part of the overall score.

oh thnx do you know how it is graded? like 60% multiple choice and 40% essay? or what?

it's more like roughly 70% mcq and 30% essay

o thanks studying stud. Can anyone give me some information about the writing portion? like is it graded really hard?

i read on the wiki website that the scores for the essay is directly proportional to the length of it.. some prof from MIT did some research. so i guess the longer your essay the higher chance you have of getting a gd score...
