I’m currently attending a community college and made a huge mistake of missing an final and ended up failing the math class. The math class is an 8 week course and I am able to retake it, and from what I have read, it seems like most colleges either replace the grade on the transcript with an (f) next to it or average the two grades – or something along those lines. My question is, I’ve already been accepted to transfer to the University of Cincinnati and in the letter it says it is “contingent on successful completion of current course work,” so if I retake the course(same semester) are my chances with transferring gone? Or should I call admissions at Cincinnati and explain it to them?
Thanks!
You’re going to want to get ahead of it and call (or go in person) and explain everything. You will be required to send a transcript at the end of this semester (to ensure you have successfully completed current course work), and they will see you did not in fact successfully complete your current course work, which may then cause a rescinded acceptance.
Check with your community college beforehand to know exactly what their policy is on retaking the class. My CC keeps both grades on there, and simply marks the latter class as repeated, so in this case, they would still see the F. But when you call Cincinnati, you’re going to want to know exactly what they’ll be seeing when they view your transcript, not what you’ve read about some colleges.
Call them.
My CC keeps both courses, but gives 0 credit for the first one because it gets replaced with the second one. I replaced quite a few Ds, Fs, and Ws with As Bs and Cs.
