We are visiting UVA tomorrow and will be attending the information session and grounds tour. Does anyone know if we can eat lunch on campus in a dining hall? If so, which one is best? Also, they said to park at the bookstore, but we will need to park closer to Maury Hall in a handicap space. Is that possible? Thanks!

When my son did Day on the Lawn Three Years ago, the admitted students went with current UVa students to eat at Newcomb. That is the closest place to the activities, but not necessarily the best, from what I understand. The parents went off on their own to eat - mainly at the Corner, which is a short walk on University Av/W. Main St. east of the Rotunda.

If you can’t make advance arrangements for a disability parking space, you might try stopping in the UVa info center on Bus. 250 west (west of Emmet) to see if you can get one there. If someone who is non-disabled is able to drive, it might be easiest to drop the person with disabilities off at the nearest possible curb, and then go park in the regular location (3 years ago, I think that was Scott Stadium).

Thank you! @Charliesch

Anyone who needs accommodation is instructed to give us a call on our website and in emails. The number is 434-982-3200. :)

We ended up parking at the bookstore parking garage, which we thought was the correct parking spot for the admission tour. However, the attendant had no idea what I was talking about and charged us $8.00. I should have called ahead for an accommodation (and more specific parking directions) as Dean J suggests. I found it very confusing!

UVA is a large school. Accomodations are in place but calling is the best way to find out their exact details. Assuming anything at large schools is not a good idea!! I was surprised you said the bookstore was for tours since that is a paid parking garage. Definitely call next time and speak to someone who knows what is going on 100%. This is true of other threads on this forum such as specific financial aid/admissions decisions, etc. Sometimes you just need to call and get an answer more specific beyond the advice from the internet.

The parking instructions were printed on the tour confirmation, but you are correct it’s always best to call and double check.

For regular tours, we use the Central Grounds Garage. For DOTL, we rent out all of Emmet & Ivy.
