Question for anyone who has lived or been inside a South Campus Apartment

I will be living in a South Campus Apartment next year (a shared room with a common area). I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what to expect?

How is the living room furniture? What do they provide? How does it look and what is the condition of the furniture?

How is the kitchen? Old or recently renovated?

I know each apartment is different but I just want to get an idea of what I can expect.

Thanks for the help!

Like you said, each apartment is very different so it’s hard to say but my friends all lived in South last year so I can probably give you a good guess. If you tell me where exactly the apt is (beacon st, park drive, mountfort, etc) i can be a better help.

Anyways…

1.) They will give you a couch and some chairs. The condition is nice and well kept. It’s not anything amazing but it’s definitely not bad either. They will also give you a kitchen table and chairs to eat at.

2.) Kitchen is small. Don’t expect anything fancy and huge but you have all the necessities there. It’s not old and most are recently renovated (maybe within the past 5 or so years).

South is really nice so don’t worry. It’s not going to be as amazing as StuvII but it’s still much better than the dorms.

I’ll also be living in a South Campus apartment, a room with shared bath, and I want to know if people get internet for their rooms. I’m tempted, but Verizon and Comcast are so expensive and it’s packaged with cable, and I don’t really need TV and it’s a short walk to the library anyhow, so I’m a bit torn…

Yes, there is definitely internet. There may or may not be wireless. I think that most, if not all on campus rooms have wifi, but if not there is definitely a wired connection. It’s covered under the ResNet label on your student account bill.

Does anyone know whether the apartments on bay state road are similar to the ones in the south in terms of the size? And does anyone know if there is a small living area inside?

Ok ipod note for you. This may kinda suck, but the apartments in Bay State are normally studios. So it’s going to be enter your room, to the left is your kitchen and dining area and past that is some living furniture and your desk.

Now this is where it can suck… you don’t have your own private bathroom… well depending on the Brownstone, but most of the apartments do not have a private bathroom. On each floor there are 2 bathrooms, and there are normally 3 rooms on a floor so you have around lets say 6-9 people sharing 2 bathrooms on each floor.

And yeah… laundry machines are in the basement, including a sitting area with a Communal TV.

In terms of crimes like burglary or thefts, is it something to be vigilant about in South Campus apartments, or is it known as the safer areas?

No, most people don’t have access to the apartments, not even swipe access. Also it’s right in Brookline, which is a very nice and safe area. So you don’t have to worry about that stuff in South! I’m living there next year, it’s really nice cause it’s not like a typical dorm area it has more of a community vibe which I like haha.

Thanks for the info lalaz. Its a shame there wont be much space in the bay state apartments, but i guess thats to be expected.

I’ve been assigned to a double along Beacon Street. How are the rooms structured? And any useful information or tip about south campus before I move in?
