I'm a pre-biz econ major right now. Would you recommend me to take math 32a (multivariable calc) in preparation for econ 11, 101, and above? Or would knowledge of single variable calculus (math31b) be enough to succeed in the econ major?

The reason I ask is because econ11 says to take math31b OR math 32a. Also, a friend of mine who's currently in econ11 says he needs to know stuff about multivariable functions, which is covered in math32a (he only took up to 31b).

I'm taking econ11 and have never taken multivariable calc. As far as the requisites, it says to complete either series, 31 OR 32, doesn't mean that it should be 32.
So far, there is some multivariable stuff in econ 11, but it's super basic, takes about 5 minutes to figure out. To take an entire course for preparation is a bit too much I think. There isn't even integration in econ 11, so I wouldn't worry about calculus too much.
btw, who's your friend's professor?
