I was just wondering if there was anyone who got accepted into GT EA with a gpa below 3.5

I applied with an overall 3.46 weighted GPA, and the valedictorian of my class did too with upwards of a 4.5. I got in, and he didn’t.

GPA is just a number —*it doesn’t necessarily have to be a reflection of who you are or what you have accomplished, and admissions officers understand this. Plus, I’m sure they wouldn’t really care much if your history or English grades are low if you have straight As in the toughest mathematics and science courses available to you, like I did. When one has a low GPA (for whatever reason), it is important to both justify it and make up for it. Otherwise, it seems like you’re simply not qualified enough to handle an intensive education.

In my case, I did apply with a 3.46 weighted (and probably something like a 3.1 unweighted) but I also have a 36 on the ACT, 2270 on the SAT, have taken 11 AP courses, am enrolled in both Multivariable Calculus and AP Physics C, have had an average of around a 4.6 GPA across 2013, and — above all — have extenuating circumstances that destroyed my grades in late sophomore year and early junior year, which explain my GPA.

Not only did I get accepted Early Action over the valedictorian of my class, but I was awarded the Provost Scholarship as an international student. So much for the horrors of a low GPA :)
