I'm trying to decide if I should take the October ACT. I think I can get up to at least a 30. Do you think I will get in with these stats or should I get my score up?
My ranking is 214/733
3.4ish UCF re-calculated GPA.
28 ACT
6 APS
Lots of honors
Best Buddies
SADD (President)
NHS
EHS
Spanish HS
200 service hours
decent essay
Applying for summer!

Your test scores are fine (ACT 28) it’s in the top 25%, but your GPA is a problem. Below is a break down by GPA.

Percent who had GPA of 3.75 and higher 57.1%

Percent who had GPA between 3.50 and 3.74 29.3%

Percent who had GPA between 3.25 and 3.49 9.3%

Percent who had GPA between 3.00 and 3.24 3.5%

As you can tell, you really need to get up to a 3.5 to really improve your chances. If you have a good first semester your senior year, you can bring your GPA up, so that’s more important that re-taking the test.

Feel free to re-take the ACT, improving it can help compensate for your GPA, but don’t lose focus on your grades for this semester, you are very close!

Good Luck!

I’m confused because my weighted high school is a 4.1. This year, I have a 3 APs, 3 Honors, and 1 reg and it looks like I’ll be getting straight As or all As and 1 B plus and it would be in an AP.

Will I be deferred with these stats or flat out rejected?
Also, are the GPAs you listed UCF re-calculated?

Yes, UCF re-calculated. They are from UCF’s common data set (for 2012-2013)

[UCF - Common Data Set 2012-13](http://www.iroffice.ucf.edu/commondataset/commondataset12/commondataset12.html)

If you can get all A’s (or one or two Bs) you should be able to get your GPA up to 3.5, which, with your ACT score, and EC’s should be enough to get you accepted.

Good Luck!

Thank for the help!
I’m hoping that I’ll get in with the stats I have and if I get deferred, I’ll be getting straight As and my UCF GPA will go to a 3.7.
Do you think there’s a chance I’ll be flat out rejected?

Yes, you’re likely get deferred. UCF is using rolling admissions and admitting the more competitive students first. This isn’t a bad thing, as it gives you time to improve your GPA and resubmit your transcripts/GPA after the first semester. It also will give you time to improve your ACT score.

AO’s also like seeing a positive trend (with GPA). As UCF would say “…this delay in response does allow you optimal consideration…” You want them to take their time assessing your application and not rejecting it out of hand due to a GPA that’s a little low.

Still, since UCF is something of a high match, you should make sure you have a safety or two picked out. Focus on keeping that GPA high your first semester, pick a few safeties, and try to have a bit of fun…You’re a Senior!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help! I got accepted today!

Congrats :)

Congrats, UCFLOVER!!

How exactly does UCF configure ones GPA? I love oos and they will not give me mine unless I come down in person. I know they take core classes, but does anyone have an exact configuration?

Hi Alison! does this help?
From the UCF/Admissions/FAQ:
Your GPA is recalculated based on the academic core courses (including English, math, science, social studies and foreign language). UCF uses a 4.0 grading scale, and also awards additional quality points for any weighted courses within the academic core. Courses marked as Pre-AP, Pre-IB, Pre-AICE, and Honors are given an additional .5 quality point.

Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced International Certification of Education (AICE), and Dual Enrollment (DE) courses are given 1 additional quality point.

Hello everyone,

I applied to UCF on 9.16.13. Just wondering if anyone else applied around this time and if you have heard anything back? When I spoke to admission last Friday they stated this is the time they started reviewing applications again. They stated it takes 2-8weeks. Just wondering if this is true and how others made out.

thank-you !!!

I submitted my app on Sept 14 and UCF got my test scores on the 25. I was accepted on Oct 1
