Hello! I'm still debating on whether or not I want to join. I'm probably going to double major in Biological Sciences and Animal Science with a pre-vet track (SEBS). I'm probably going to have a hefty workload, and I don't want to take on too much so that I can't handle it. I know DRC requires one woman's class, a one week externship, and a portfolio project, but is that it? Is that all the requirements? Again, I really don't want to give myself too much work. Thank you!

Hi! I am the Dean of Recruitment and New Student Programs at Douglass. Rutgers is the only public university in the nation to have a community like Douglass that focuses on womens success, achievement and leadership. Whether you commute or live on campus, Douglass helps to fully integrate students into coeducational academic and student life.

As you are considering science-based majors, the support of the Douglass Project for women in STEM areas would be invaluable to you. Douglass has changed the ‘requirements’ to be a one-year residency (live on the Douglass campus the first year) only if you are a residential student. Commuters are exempt from this requirement and to take the women’s leadership course which REPLACES a General University Requirement (a course you have to take, anyway, as part of your Rutgers education).

So, Douglass does not add any requirements/demands. In fact, as a women in sciences, Douglass would help you succeed with additional tutoring, peer support, labs designated for STEM women at Douglass, scholarship opportunities, and the possibility of doing research as early as your first year.

Douglass would not add work to anything you are doing. If you aren’t already in GoRutgers! for admitted students, I recommend you go to that online network and see what other students are saying, too! Let us know if you have any other questions and good luck with your decisions!

Thank you SO much! That was really helpful! Now I have no reason not to join :)

After attending an info session for Douglass back in March (or February?) I was incredibly impressed with the social and academic perks available to Douglass women. Like you said, if you’re going to Rutgers, there is no reason not to enroll.

Yeah, as a Rutgers student with friends in DRC, it’s a great program. (Plus, you get to choose housing first come your sophomore year, lol.) If you choose all-girls housing and stay in Woodbury-Bunting Cobb, they have a good study program there to help you with the sciences. It’s not really extra work, and no one I’ve met dislikes it. Most people enjoy the women’s study class, too, because the discussions can be fascinating. =)

Awesome, thanks! Definitely joining then I’m so excited!
