Questions about Drexel?

Alisonangus - The MIP is extremely competitive because there is a very limited number of spots. Spots are limited due to size restrictions in the audio labs, recording studios, etc. I think there are usually about 50-60 students a year but I’m not 100% sure. Good luck!

How can I increase my chances?

Did you already apply? The best way of increasing your chances I guess is to emphasize both your passion for music and if possible, any business or tech experience you have with music. That would include any promoting or management experience you’ve had, whether with yourself or another artist or band, and any tech experience such as recording or mixing projects (even if just at home in your basement). Once again, good luck! :)

does anyone know if drexel’s psychology program is any good?

Hi morrism93! I have a neighbor in psychology and I know that she really enjoys the program. I was also thinking about minoring in psychology here.

As for the prestige of the program, I don’t know much about that. I’m sure if you googled stats for the psychology program, you could find some information. I hope you find what you’re looking for!

Do Drexel students ever hang out with UPenn students? The schools are really close, so are there ever parties with kids from both schools?

Hey Haley, I am in my second semester of sophomore year of high school. I plan on applying to drexel for music technology and was wondering of what my chances of getting in so far are:
GPA: approx. 3.3 (school doesnt reveal gpa until end of junior year)
Our school doesnt do rank
I take 1 ap now and will be taking at least one next year as well
I take a commercial music class at my school, and next year i am taking a recording class as well as a radio internship class
I have my own show on my schools radio station and will probably be offered an officer position next year
I am in my schools band and plan on graduating with a five-year sequence
My freshman year I had no extra curriculars but this year I have marching band, the radio show i mentioned, political science club, and astronomy club
Next year I hope to do a lot of community volunteering and join street teams for bands
I also may help in managing a band but that is uncertain
This Summer i will be getting a job (hopefully at a music store)
So what do you think my chances of getting in are so far?
P.S. I may be getting an internship at Atlantic Records in NYC at the end of my junior year

bigben7 - I don’t really think I have any friends who go to UPenn but I know that parties do mingle. I know a lot of people go to UPenn for parties on the weekends and I’ve heard they’re really fun, though I’ve never been (it’s kind of a far walk in the cold lol). I’ve met a few people from UPenn at parties and restaurants and stuff so they do mingle, but not on the day of the Battle of 33rd Street. Drexel and UPenn are separated by 33rd street and every year when our basketball teams play is a big deal. We’ve won 3 years in a row haha.

rcohen95 - Since you have two years before applying for colleges I really can’t tell you what your chances are of getting in. If you keep your grades up and continue with the extracurriculars, your chances look good so far. Since it’s such a long way away though I can’t really give you any figures to look at. The program/acceptance may have changed by then, I honestly don’t know. All your credits look really good right now, keep it up.

How much did Drexel Cost “you” as a student (not including federal aid nor scholarships, just the flat price before any deductions)?

(would like this answered more then #1) What % of Drexel University undergrad students that apply to medical school get accepted? Does drexel medical school favor drexel university graduates??
(i could not find this on their website, contrary to many other universities)

I wasn’t really planning on going to Drexel but the reason i ask this is because i got a VIP, free w/ no essay application to Drexel, and after being accepted i got a very substantial scholarship, and i may end up going there because of the cost compared to other schools ive applied to

dtc7733 - Well the flat price of Drexel without any financial aid or scholarships and including money for miscellaneous items is probably 55,000 a year depending on where you live and what you spend your “extra” money on… but that’s not what Drexel would cost me as a student. What Drexel costs me is deducting the scholarship and financial aid they gave me. I think I have about 25k of loans a year, but I’m not spending all that money, some of it is a “just in case” type of fund.

As I am not a medical student or staff/faculty I have no idea anything about the medical program stats. I’d suggest googling it.

Hi, I was just wondering how big the fashion program is at Drexel and around how many students they take, i know it is very competative, im just trying to figure out some numbers ha, anything you know would help, thank you!

Can you tell us how much scholarship you received and which program you have applied to.

Hi kkal131: my roommate and neighbor are both in the fashion design program. I’m not sure how many students they accept, but I can ask them and get back to you. They love the program, I think it’s pretty well-rated. But, like many art majors, it is a lot of work: many hands on projects which give you tons of experience but to me, that’s a plus!

Hello rocko2: I am in the Music Industry program and I received an academic scholarship of 28,000/yr.

Hi - I have been reading your threads and I don’t think I saw anything about the Business School. My daughter got accepted to the Business School with the 5-year co-op option. I saw it got a big donation from Lebow this year. Do you know anything about the program, any friends that are in it? Also - I’m concerned that the school is a big commuter school - it’s the only one we saw that allows freshman to have cars on campus. Do you find that a lot of people go home on the weekends?

Wannabedone: I don’t know much about the business school. I do know a few people who are in business, I guess they seem to like it. I’m not very close with these people so haven’t really talked to them much about their major.

As for the second question… I don’t find that to be a problem. I’m from Florida and so most of my friends who go here live a lot closer to Drexel than I do. However, they don’t go home that often. My roommate went home for a day this past weekend but generally everyone stays during the weekend. There’s always people here.

Great information from you I really appreciate it! My daughter applied for the fashion design program and we have not heard anything yet. She called to ask if her file was complete and they said decisions would be coming out after feb 1st. Do you know anything about the coops or study abroad programs offered for fashion design students? Also do you have to pay tuition when you are doing a coop? Thanks!

Do many on-campus students have cars? Are cars helpful or necessary, or more of a hindrance? Also how easy is it for drexel students to get around the city?

I don’t know about coops for fashion design but I know they have a study abroad program in London. It’s very competitive to get in (my roommate and neighbor are both applying right now). I believe there are a maximum of 12 spots and about 44 or 46 students that could apply (though not necessarily all do apply, I’m fairly sure that most do).

I think that you do have to pay tuition during coop but I’m not entirely sure and I think that it might already be built into tuition. I’m not very positive about this because my coops are different from other programs.

all4game - I’m not sure how many students on campus have cars, I don’t think it’s that much. I only know a few people who do. For me it would be hindrance because I would never drive anywhere (too much hassle with one way streets and traffic), there is a lot of public transportation options and I would end up paying a lot for gas and for parking and storage of the car in drexel lots when you aren’t using it. It’s pretty easy to get around the city using either your feet, bike, or the ever popular subway/bus system.

Hi Haley! I got accepted into the Psychology program. My questions are:

Does Drexel have General Education requirements, or is its curriculum strictly career-related?

Is it true that a Drexel student can take some courses at Penn?

I received an acceptance letter for the 5 year Nursing Program at Drexel, but I have planned to enroll at a different university. How do I notify the admissions office that I will not enroll for Drexel?
