Questions about Tisch School of the Arts at NYU!!

Hi!

I've wanted to go to Tisch for Drama for so long. Although I have a few years before I would apply/audition (In 8th grade) I have a few questions to see if its truly what I want. (So far it is. I have yet to ever doubt it.)

-Does applying Early Decision lower your chances of getting in?
-How many people apply Early Desision? Regular?
-Roughly how many people are accepted both Early and Regular?
-Are you accepted based on your grades AND talent or is it mainly talent? (Because grades are a big deal to me.)
-Do they care what high school you went to?
(I ask this because I have decided not to go to a high school for the performing arts because I feel like I can do more things for my acting skills if I focus on acting outside of school. My friends who are going to that kind of high school (haven't found out if they got in) are mad at me because they say Tisch wouldn't consider me or they (my friends) think I'm not taking acting seriously even though I am because it's so incredibly important to me. Though I strongly believe that my friends don't know what they are talking about, I'm still curious.)

-Do they look at current talent AND potential?
-How many people are accepted into each studio, specifically New Studio?

I just have had my heart set on this school for so long, and before I get too settled with the idea that this is where I would like to apply I want to know a little more.

Thanks!

I don’t know about Tisch specifically, but at nearly every school, ED actually IMPROVES your chances of getting in. Colleges are big on yield, the percentage of admitted students who actually attend, because it is a major part of their US News and World Report ranking, so they like to take lots of ED applicants, who are guaranteed to attend. Many colleges claim not to prefer ED applicants, arguing that the higher acceptance rate is due to a stronger applicant pool, but that’s hard to believe of schools that take upwards of 50% of their total class early when a much smaller percentage apply early.

If you’re only in 8th grade, don’t stress too much about colleges, just take advanced classes, pursue ECs you’re passionate about, and stay in touch with your guidance counselor.

Thanks! I’m already taking high school courses and thats why I’m worried about the grade aspect of it. So it’s better to apply ED?
