Just wanted to see if anyone else had a random charge from College Board? The last time we had anything to do with CB was 2010 when my youngest was applying to college. Last month there was a $25.00 charge from them on my CC. I reported it to the CC company, but just wondered if anyone else had the problem.

Does your daughter received need based aid? Are you required to submit financial information via the IDOC system? That is administered by College Board and I think the fee is $25.

If you have had NO dealings with the college board at all, for any reason since 2010, I would not pay this fee.

Did you call the CB and ask them what the charge is for? That would be a good place to start. It might just be an error on their part.

I would contact college board immediately. If there’s no good explanation, contest with credit card or whomever they have you paying it with.

We don’t use IDOC for anything. When I tried calling college board I just got a menu that didn’t really cover my question and decided to just let the cc company handle it.

I Just wondered if anyone else had the problem or to mention it so that people would check their CC statements to make sure that they weren’t charged incorrectly too.

I was surprised that three years later they could just charge a cc that they have on file without sending me something letting me know that this was done or requiring me to authorize the charge, and use of the card.

^ I don’t think they have your CC on file. It’s more likely that someone got a hold of your number. Just a couple of weeks ago our CC company called us and said someone got a hold of a whole bunch of numbers and were using them after making fake cards with the numbers on them. Some had used a card with my H’s number at a grocery store in FL… Kind of scary when you think about it.

Is there any chance one of your children needed to send some old test scores to a college? I believe that is the amount I paid to have some archived AP scores to a school my daughter is transferring to.

AdvMom, that was my first thought. I wondered if they needed their old scores sent for any scholarships that they might have applied for. Neither of then had.

The easiest way to solve this mystery is to CALL the college board and ask what the charge is for.

Most of the time when I get a business voice mail I can bypass the menu by pushing 0.

It’s fine if you would rather just let your CC company handle the investigation. But there are definitely ways to reach the College Board over a disputed credit charge if you really want to.

I agree with the others that it unlikely that the CB has your old credit card number “on file” though.

Do either of your kids have your credit card for their own use? It’s also possible that a roommate or guest got hold of the credit card and copied the info – or perhaps someone working at a store or restaurant where they used the card. Sad if that were the case, but in a student community your kids are likely coming into frequent contact with other students, including some who might be dishonest enough to steal a credit card number or to use a number they know to be stolen.

calmom, I am the only one with the card anymore. My dd used to have it several years ago though. There were no other unexplained charges and CB did at one time have the number, that is why I thought they placed the charge. I am sure if I get a chance during the day I can try to call them, but in the mean time cc refunded the charge and is investigating.

I would also call the card company and indicate that a fraudulent charge was made on that card and ask them to immediately cancel that card and issue a new one with a new number, at no charge to you. That is what I did when someone used my credit card to make a reservation that we did NOT authorize and then did not show up! We challenged it and it was removed. It was a card we hadn’t used in years!

HImom, good idea about replacing the card just in case. At this point they have reversed the charge while they investigate. I am curious to see what they find out.

Having the charge reversed is just the tip of the iceberg. This CB charge could very well be a fishing expedition…the card fraudulent user made that charge to see if anyone would take notice.

You need to cancel this card.

And for the life of me, I can’t imagine why you aren’t contacting the CB to see what the charge is for!

Here is how to get a human at CollegeBoard [College Board SAT Program Customer Phone Number | Shortest Wait | Best Support | GetHuman.com](http://gethuman.com/phone-number/College-Board-SAT-Program/)

The first thing I did was call College Board. When I called, all the voice mail choices seemed to be related to scores only, nothing about billing. Since this was late at night I didn’t think there would be a person who could help me anyway. I then called the CC company who immediately helped me. They had the charge reversed and are “investigating”

Because the CC company stepped in, College board doesn’t know what the charge was for because the CC company reversed it as soon as I contacted them. All they can see is that a charge was attempted, but that it was reversed. They can’t see what it was for, who it was for or the amount. At least that is what they told me.

Since I had tried them and just got the choices on the voice mail that seemed to be score related, not billing related, I called the cc company right away. It is not that I did not call college board, it is that by the time I got them (which was after I got the cc company) they no longer had any information.

That doesnt make sense. A charge is “reversed” or credited back to your account. It isn’t “deleted”, so there should be a history of the charge and then the subsequent reversal/credit applied. The initial charge is typically put in some sort of temporary suspend mode while they investigate. If you pull up your credit card history on line, can you see the sequence of the charge and the reversal/credit adjustment by the cr. card company?

When it comes to financial information, they must keep a history of the transactions. They don’t just “delete” it. Collegeboard sounds like they are not being forthright with you. Or they dont want to bother with it since its already been adjusted.

So, OP…did you finally talk to the college board? I agree with Jym…their record of billing is not related to your credit card company…unless THEY goofed, and if so, they should be able to tell you that.

The CB will have a record of what they billed you for. This will Not be wiped away by your credit card company action.

Whatever…you still need to cancel this credit card.

Sounds like the OP DID talk to collegeboard and they blew smoke in her face. Agree with Thumper- if CB charged you erroneously they would have to credit the charge- not delete it.

jym626 that is what I thought too. It actually sounded fishy. She assured me that they didn’t charge me on their own, that someone had to have entered the cc number on line to generate the charge. While I was getting nowhere, I was hoping the cc company would be able to get to the bottom of it.

In the mean time, I am keeping a close eye, and have not seen any other charges that I did not make. I am also going to call to get the card closed, and opened with a new number as per advice here.
