Rate my first semester college schedule out of 10

1 being easy..10 being extremely difficult

CHEM 101 - General, Organic, and Biochemistry (5)
PSYSC 100 - General Psychology (3)
HIST 150 - The West in the World (3)
ANAT 201 - Fundamentals of Human Anatomy (3)

None of us can reliably rate your schedule; we don’t understand the depth of your previous experience with the subjects, general intelligence, and other ambiguous factors that cannot be adequately understood in the context of this forum. It’s best to talk to your academic adviser as to whether or not this schedule is appropriate for your skills and needs.

But just to play along, I would say around a 5 – average.

It’s a pretty typical first semester. Many kids take a similar semester but also have either Intro to Communications or a College Writing (or Literature) class thrown in for a total of 5 classes.

I’d rate your semester a 5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale.

I’d go with a 4. Seems like a pretty easy semester by my standards. By the way, why did you feel the need to post this thread after you already made one that is exactly the same thing, but with a different title?

3

Only 1 second-year class and only 14 units. I’m assuming you’re pre-med?

I have a similar first semester schedule to that- I’m a Bio/Poli Sci double major, going premed- but I’m entering with around 30 credits from APs and college classes. Because of that, I’m planning to start with a bit easier schedule and ramp up from there to make sure I adjust well (and to have plenty of free time 1st semester).

I could graduate in 2 1/2 to 3 years, but I might as well spend the full 4 (I’m on a fullride to the U. of Alabama) working for a great GPA and studying for my MCAT.

Similarly, how many credits are you entering with, and what is/are your major(s)?

thats easy schedule, you may consider it 14 credits if you like but its only 4 classes at the end of the day…most schools have chm as 3 credits + a lab portion which takes a lot of time (maybe this is included in your 5 cr , i dont know)

i would say its a great schedule, but I strongly recommend that you ALSO plan your next semester schedule at the same time before you find out that you should be taking something else right now.

K?

if you want rating (which i base on difficulty) i give you a 6.
i would consider it a 9 if you tack physics in there, and 11/10 if you remove your wild west class and add calc.

hey guys, thanks for the posts, umm my major is nursing…and i only have to take one semester of chemistry…does that sound right?..and the only reason im only taking 14 credit hours is because i tested out of english 103…so really im getting 17 assuming i pass all my courses…also how would you rate the social life of a nurse…will i have party time on the weekends? and everyone says anatomy is gonna be HARD…i don’t see why because im amazing at memorization

i apply to the nursing program sophomore year…ball state university is the college by the way…will it be hard to make it into their nursing program…and what MINIMUM GPA should i be aiming for…obviously i will try and exceed that

I would rate this around a 3 or 4. Nothing really stands out as difficult, but for your first semester, it’s probably best to take it a little easy to make sure you can manage your time.

Even though you tested out of English 103, it doesn’t mean that you are taking 17 credits for the semester. You will have 3 credits on your transcript but you will have 14 credits listed for the Fall 2009 semester. You might want to consider adding English 104 or Public Communications to your fall schedule. This way, you’ll be able to cut down to 4 classes during one of your more difficult semesters as an upperclassman.

seems like the nursing plan here really limits your options early in college career if you decide to change major or possibly meet pre-req for med school and stuff.
…its really specific

they say the average college student changes his major 3 times.

It also looks like that CHM101 isnt general chm (it might be one of those non-science major courses) , does taking general chm instead count for your program? this way you could have more to fall back on (your schedule is easy as is, so…wont be too much load)

SAME goes for BIO…take real bio if it counts for your major.

(what im trying to get at is that if you decide to change your major, you wont be left with useless classes…but instead classes that count towards another potential major)

if your not sure, ask an advisor

My Schedule >>>

MATH 1101 (Intro to Math)
GEOG 1111 (Intro to Physical Geography)
GRMN 2001 (Intermediate German)
PEDB 1400 (Weight Training)
MUSI 2060 (History of Rock N Roll)
FRES 1020 (Seminar on Music in Movies)

14hrs

i don’t plan on changing my major…i picked something i like and im sticking to it…the only way i would be forced to change is if i didn’t make it into the nursing program…but im gonna go all out…i got a 3.7 gpa in high school so i think i could manage

your second semester looks extra easy. If you are not strong in math, I’d recommend taking comp 2 your first sem and taking math your second semester. As a math tutor, I know a lot of people (a lot of nurses!) who wait to take algebra until their sophomore year and they really struggle. If you did well in HS algebra - went up to pre-calc and calc and whatnot, I’m sure you will be fine. Just don’t be shocked if you find it challenging.

lol i took calculus in high school and got n A…so am i seriously ****ed if i would want to change majors?..i really don’t plan on changing…im just afraid of doing bad because idk…it just seems like college is gonna be SO MUCH HARDER…i have really good study habits and self dicipline…i just idk…like i said the only reason i would possibly have to change majors is if i didn’t get the grades…but i plan to …and would it be easy to just drop down and go for an associates assuming that would be my only other option?

ha, you should be fine then. It is usually returning students that have the most problems. You did not specify so I was not sure. Still not a bad idea to take comp 2 now though, as others mentioned, you could free up some time your junior and senior years. If your school has flat rate tuition, then it is no doubt worth it.

re-read my last response i added to it…but ya idk i don’t really want another class added on because i don’t know how difficult college classes are and i just want to get used to it…i mean im pretty smart but i think i gotta study alot more than some people to get my grades…like my best friend…he can look at the info once and be fine…i gotta go over it numerous times lol

screwed for an associates? I do not think so, but I have a very limited knowledge on that degree. Check with your degree plan. If you changed your major altogether, some courses may be obsolete such as anatomy or possibly that specific type of chemistry. If they instead allow you to substitute something like ‘chemistry for science majors’ than it would not be a bad idea. Of course it may be more challenging, but its very flexible. Hell, I was the only non-engineering major in my engineering physics course but I wanted to keep my options open. Besides, the class was actually par with the regular physics course in difficulty although that is certainly not true in all cases!

Consider adding English 104, Public Speaking, or Math to your 1st semester. It’s better to get some of this stuff out of the way early in order to free up your schedule as you get deeper into your major.

like i said, if it is flat rate tuition, you lose nothing by dropping a class if it is too much.
