also during my second semester…it says i have to take sociology…i took sociology 121 in high school…a community college professor taught it at our school and they said you would get a college credit…i got an A…so if i go there and get it transfered that would mean i wouldn’t have to take the sociology class it has for me for my second semester right?..that way i could add another class my second semester if i really needed to

but ya i wouldn’t change my major to pre-med for sure…too much stress for me…my brother is pre-med lol…but ya i have orientation in a couple days so ill ask about this ****…but i really don’t think im gonna take pre-med chem even if they allow me to because what if i do bad in that class you know? im just gonna get my head straight and aim for a 3.5+…chillaxe on the partying

You won’t be screwed if you decide to change majors. Most of your classes will count as either gen-ed or electives…but yeah, nursing curriculums are tough. I’m gonna have to take summer classes or else there’s way too much to take each semester (an average of 17 credits).

I feel sorry for you though…you have to apply to get into the nursing program at your school your sophomore year! At my school, you start nursing (including clinicals) your sophomore year because you’re admitted directly into nursing and all you have to do to progress is pass certain classes including English, psych and sociology.

your classes are easier than mine lol…and i would be taking 17 credit hours but i tested out of my english class…so really ill get 17 credits first semester but im really only taking 14 credit hours

history sociology psychology and english are gonna be all cake classes most likely…i know sociology is for sure…i already had it…we are both taking history…we are both taking anatomy and chemistry is harder than all those

then again you might see it a differen’t way…you might struggle where i excel…vice versa

See, all my classes are a lot of work, and, I’m taking 3 more credits than you. Plus, look at the fact that my anatomy class is anatomy**&**physiology which is definitely tougher than doing one at a time.

^ Most nursing students are dead set on being a nurse…and many of them fail (get below a C) in anatomy&physiology or can’t take the stress of nursing classes and drop out of nursing school/change majors. That’s just the way it goes.

man you gotta realize how many dumb nurses are out there…sometimes you wonder how they even got their degree…ive been in the doctors office and hospital settings many times so yes i see many of the challenges they go through…and i know i could do that if i put my mind to it…thats why im dead set and im not gonna **** my parents off by changing majors all of a sudden in college…if i end up not liking it for some reason ill have to deal with it…simple as that…but i don’t see myself not enjoying it…and if their that motivated how could they possible fail anatomy…anyone who is motivated and wants to pass the class will pass the class unless they are mentally retarted and got into college by accident

my mom was at a hospital the other day and this nurse couldn’t put an iv in her…she had to call another nurse to help…and this nurse was like 50…so its not like she was new

I still think you should add Eng 104, public communications, or your math class to the schedule. I did go to the Ball State website to look over the nursing sequence. You should understand that recommended sequences don’t always work out. There may be times when you can’t get into a class for a particular semester. Some reasons for this may be that the class is closed due to the number of seats being filled or it isn’t offered during that particular semester. It’s also important to get some of the general education requirements out of the way in the beginning when your taking lower level classes.

It seems as though you are dead set against adding one more class because you ignore the posts that advise you to do so. You should understand that although you have “tested out” of 3 credits of English, you can’t just add the 3 credits to your current semester and act like you’re taking 17 credits when you’re really only taking 14 credits. You will not get a grade for those 3 credits of English, thus–it does not count towards your gpa.

Your semester as it stands now is easy. You will have a lot of free time on your hands that will most likely be wasted. You could easily manage 5 classes.

Good luck. One more thing to consider–if you’re trying to compete with other students to get into the nursing program, you should show a rigor to the curriculum as well as a strong GPA.

i wouldn’t mind taking another class…but i haven’t even been in college yet so to me the classes i have first semester are rigorous…i don’t want to totally kill myself and fail out of college because i overwelmed myelf too much…but idk ill talk to my advisor and consider it

and if anything ill add math…because that should be an easy A

but ya i totally understand what your saying…my brother had told me the same exact thing lol

Most people who “fail” A&P don’t actually fail, they get below a C (and in nursing curriculums, that’s basically the same as a fail because it means you don’t get credit and have to retake the class). Also, it’s hard! Some people just can’t grasp all of it. Motivation has a lot to do with it, yes, but it’s not everything. Just because you’re motivated doesn’t mean you’ll get through something.

Also, just because the nurse at the hospital was “like 50” doesn’t mean she wasn’t new. Do you know how many nurses are there due to a career change? A new 50 year old nurse really wouldn’t be that surprising.

she wasn’t new because my mom talked to other people that knew her…and to me a D is failing…if you can’t get at least a C …to me you pretty much failed…in high school i was afraid to get a B because i considered that extremely low…and idk maybe some people just suck at memorization…but i could memorize 20 pages in a book…read it to u line for line…even the punctuations…im not worried about getting lower than a C

there are also alot of people that didn’t do that well in high school that go into the nursing major thinking its gonna be a piece of cake…because it sounds easy…like i know alot of people in my high school that want to go into nursing…they had 2.0 gpas…didn’t take any challenging courses and they think its gonna be easy… i mean im not saying they won’t make it but the people that got top 10 percent in high school and around a 4.0 gpa…will most likely make it unless they fall into money problems or something else

and how do you know its hard? you haven’t taken it yet…you can’t make assumptions on classes you haven’t taken and experienced…you might think its easy…why think negative anyway? theres no point of pointing out the individuals who did fail it…obviously they were doing something wrong…if you think your gonna do well…you will do whatever you can to do well…thats how i see it…i got a B+ first semester in Calculus…because i thought i was gonna do bad…next semester i told myself i would get n A…it was harder than the first semester and i still managed to get an A

It’s great you want to be a nurse - there is a shortage of health professionals in this country, especially nurses, and especially male nurses. Only 6% of American RNs are male, that’s ridiculous; if only 6% of lawyers or other professions were female, everyone would be bleating about sexism. Nursing is such an important job and we really need determined, hard-working, intelligent nurses in the healthcare industry right now. So if you really want to do this, go for it and I wish you the best of luck.

I’m not going to rank your schedule because what’s the point - if you really want to be a nurse, it doesn’t matter if it’s a 1 or 10, you have to get through it. There’s no point in arguing with people about the difficultly or your ability or whatever - realize it’s going to be difficult, but work your ass off and go for it.

lol i like your answer alix…you are totally right…no matter how hard the objective ahead…im gonna have to get through it…and if i really want it…i will
