“how do you know its hard? you haven’t taken it yet…you can’t make assumptions on classes you haven’t taken and experienced…”
Your statement negates your reason for starting this thread.

bump…

well, it may not have been the nurse’s fault . . .

lol why do you guys keep pointing that out…it was her fault…its her job and she has to know how to do it

well, if she is overweight, sometimes it is hard to find veins on fat people

To paraphrase the OP,
How do you know it isn’t hard (to find a vein in your mother’s arm)? If you haven’t given her an IV, you can’t make assumptions about situations that you haven’t experienced…

if ur a good nurse u could find a vein in anyones arm…there are no non-veined people…and just drop the subject you guys are trying to make dumbass points about something dumb

It is not an easy task trying to hit a vein in some people. I think what people are trying to say is that you shouldn’t criticize this nurse for not sticking the vein. You seem to think that sticking a vein is easy. Often times, it is. Other times, it’s near impossible.

It’s great that you are so excited about the nursing field. I hope you have the same enthusiasm as you progress further and further into the program. For now though, perhaps you shouldn’t judge a nurse for not sticking a vein in this one particular incident. At least wait until you have studied phlebotomy and done a rotation in the field.

Good luck and I hope nursing turns out to be the right choice for you.

-now it’s probably time to drop this discussion and move on to something else.

I had a nurse fail to get an IV in my arm and she asked me if I wanted someone else to try or for her to try again(she’d already tried quite a few times in different places) and I asked for someone else. It happens sometimes, not everyone’s body is the same. It’s just like doctor’s needing a second opinion on a spot on an x-ray: I would much rather them be safe than to make a huge mistake.

Nursing can open up tons of opportunities!! I say if you think you’ll love it, go for it!
