RD Decisions

USNChief-Congratulations!!! No change in DS’s Spire this morning, maybe in the mail?

Congrats! Maybe I’ll see you at open house.
Confused mom- I’m sure you’ll hear soon.

That is very possible…we are deciding when to go. Looks like the next sessions are on 3/29, 4/5, and 4/7.

The UMass website indicates FA letters are going out starting on 4/1. There is still a 5K gap between EFC and the current cost even after the scholarship. Hopeful…

Have you attempted any of the other scholarships? I am scrolling through them now looking for ones to which he might apply.

We’re going on 3/29. Really looking forward to it.

I just don’t get it. Son (in-state) had 3.8 uw gpa and an 1800 on SAT and was only accepted undeclared instead of mechanical engineering. He was so ticked off that he has ruled UMASS out.

Did he take honors and ap classes? And what’s his sat out of 1600? You really need the honors and aps to boost gpa and at least a 1250/1600.

I’m so sorry, TedL123. At times there seems to be no rhyme or reason for admissions decisions. Have you talked to admissions to see if they’ll give you an answer?

Everything was honors or AP all 4 years except English. SAT was over 1200 (680 for math). Varsity sports all 4 years, member of high school best buddies chapter, led a breast cancer fundraiser, worked a part-time job. Maybe it’s because he applied early action?

It’s just harder to get into their engineering school.

I think the same about the engineering school - it’s known to be really competitive. But who knows? I’m really sorry - I know how disappointed you both must be.

USNChief-There is a specific Open house for engineering school on April 13th

TedL-Same thing happened to my son but his GPA is lower than yours so I don’t know why your son didn’t get in. Did you ask admissions to take a 2nd look including his 1st semester senior year grades? that’s what we did. They put my son into the RD pool and included his 1st semester senior year grades and his Dec st SAT scores in his stats. We are still waiting to hear the outcome of that 2nd look. (nothing in today’s mail again!)

@TedL123 Wow those are really good creds I also don’t understand the whole admissions process it is cloaked in mystery and honestly it too is begining to wear very thin with me too. Same thing is happening with my D at Syracuse .Its like they pick and choose and I wonder why parents as well as students believe in the criteria these schools lay out .in other words one student does all they can do and the other just lollies along not taking any honors or AP classes and they get accepted on the first wave. We will wait patiently and deal with all these B.S. later. It is so frustrating but so far not denied ha ha but i am too getting pis#%^$d off

no mail today wow really starting to lose interest for UMass…not in my fabric to give up yet…tommorow is another day…Good luck to all accepted today…especially those who did not get their mail today…Really Spire !

We have not gotten mail notification either ConfusedMominMA. We did not even receive an email saying that a decison was made. Just decided to logon to SPIRE and there it was.

Well…spoke to soon. The envelope arrived today.

Where are you located, USNChief?

Located in Maine

We have decided to wait for the Engineering Open House on April 13th. It will be the best option for helping son decide.

Another day with no news.

We too are members of the No News club but there is always tommorow and the day after that and the day after that and… Maybe a week from now if no news will accept admissions to other choices…scholarships are drying up

No news again today. Yes, we should find out in the next week or so. April 1st is a week from Monday so time is running out.
