** Read Before Starting New Housing Thread**

Ask Housing has the exact measurements. There's a link to it on the UCLA Housing page.

There are overhead lights in each room however, they aren't amazing. I would definitely recommend bringing a desk lamp - especially if you plan on doing any late night studying with possibly sleeping roommates. Each desk has a very uncomfortable wooden chair. I personally didn't bring my own chair - I just stuck a cushion on the wooden one. But, many people do bring their own comfy office chairs.

Desk lamp is a must. One roomie didn't bring one, so she's always stealing other roomie's. Other roomie's lamp is the type that burns your eyes out. Hate.

how big of a chair can you fit in there?

Just throw your own chair out into the hallway. You should be able to fit a nice little one in there. Something like this (Contemporary Drafting Stools w FlexBack and Footring) would be perfect. Apparently they're called task chairs. Plus, you'd never get anything done in one of those.

i rather get the big one where i will not get anything done
its cheaper

question!! what kinds of electronic equipment can we bring to residence halls..?
can we bring items that produce heat like toasters, rice cookers, etc? loll xP

not legally, no.

you don't need a toaster. if you're desperate for toast go to a dining hall and use their toasters.

fridges are allowed. stand-alone microwaves are not. microfridges, however, are fine.

i've seen microwaves, rice cookers, and hot water heaters in dorm rooms- just find a cardboard box to put over it for room inspections, and don't do anything stupid to set off the smoke alarm.

do we have to bring any wires or anything to connect to the internet?
i have wireless connection at home so i don't exactly know how to connect to another connection using the wires (ie will ppl help us out, lol?)

oh, and another internet related one: does ucla monitor our internet usage? i've heard some colleges have consequences for illegally downloading stuff (not that i would, of course lol)

Ethernet cord. There will be plugs in the walls, two in each room. For triples, you pick up a hub from STC in the beginning of the year. Pretty easy to figure out which plug goes where. Try for like, 14 feet. It's nice being able to use your laptop from your bed. Plus, they're starting to install wireless in all the dorms, so maybe you won't need the cords.

Yes, there's a chance you'll get caught if you download something illegally. Run a search, there's been posts about it.

Don't buy your CAT-5/6 at school! Make your own and save $10.

Or...buy it for like $3 for 15 feet at Fry's.

how much is the initial housing payment when we accept our housing offer?

thanks

400 dollars

i paid the housing deposit with a credit card and printed the contractx. do i still have to sign and mail in the actual offer and contracts?

There is a version to do it electronically

The initial payment is $400? How... where?
I went to the housing website, logged in, chose to pay monthly for the hall, chose the bruin premier meal plan... but I have to pay $1400 on June, then $1200 on July, then $950 installments. Is the fact that I'm an intl student the cause of this?

same with me.

alright. the payment is definitely not $400. ***

mine was over $1400 now. and $1200ish later also

it might be the fin aid one that's $400?
in any case, they have to pay it all eventually, but i remember there being a plan that lets you pay a little at first and make it up later.
