[2010-2011 Contract Housing Rates and Payment Plans (1004377)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1004377)

thanks…

out of campus university apartments include food?

University Apartments don’t include food by default but I believe you can request a meal plan if you are willing to pay extra.

Paying for ucla would be extremely difficult for me (international). So, I need the cheapest combination- may that be residential halls or off campus apartments. What do you think could be cheapest?

In your guys’ opinion, which bed is the best in a triple? The bottom bunk, the top bunk, or the top bunk with the desk underneath?

carreshwell: There is a 1 bedroom/3 people in the off-campus apartments for $5,313. You’d have to pay extra for the meal plan also, but it’s definitely cheaper than living in the dorms. There’s also this thing called a coop off-campus and I’d look into that. I don’t know much about it but I heard it’s really cheap. You just have to do a certain amount of chores every week in exchange for the low housing rates.

thanks for the reply

The last one.

I love bottom bunk. Love the access! So tempting to take naps…

The loft bed with the desk underneath does sound very tempting for me!

About having a plaza with a shared bathroom…

How does sharing a bathroom work as far as doors between the two rooms? Does this mean that if I’m, say, dropping logs in the bathroom, I need to lock both the door back to my room so that my roommate doesn’t walk in and the door to the other room so that the people sharing the bathroom with me and my roommate don’t walk in? Or is there no need for locking in general, i.e. the area to the toilet and shower are separated by doors from the “main” part of the bathroom with the two sinks?

Are the actual room sizes bigger in plazas than residential halls? If so, is it a pretty big difference?

Me and my friend will probably be dorming together in a triple. We’re both fine with the general arrangements of the res halls, it’s just that the rooms are a bit small. So is the only difference between halls and plazas the arrangements of rooms/bathrooms or are the rooms themselves bigger and better?

There are two separate rooms attached to the bathroom that have toilets. The shower(s?) is also separate. The exact layout depends on the building, I think.

I believe they are bigger. The size difference depends on the building.

Yes. It’s a pretty big difference.

Hey I’m not sure if this has already been asked yet, but I’m a transfer student and I really want to get into one of the university apartments because its cheaper than the dorms. I’ve heard that I’m only guaranteed housing, not any in particular. So what are the chances that I’ll get into one of the university apartments? Thanks.

On the UCLA housing application, there’s on option for “one occupant” and “one occupant; shared bath”.

Which type of housing does this apply to? Suites? Res Halls?

Two questions.

First, my first choice is a plaza triple. Does this have the same bed configuration as a res hall triple (ie one bunk, one loft)?

Secondly, I applied for housing with the intention of rooming with a friend from school, so roommate is listed as my first preference instead of housing type. However, he might not even be able to attend ucla this year due to military service, so if he ends up not going will it totally kcuf up my chances of getting a plaza triple (since room type is not listed as my first priority)?

posting so i can easily find this again…

got my housing offer. Sunset triple. It doesn’t really say what type of bathroom it is, but I’m assuming shared. I haven’t really heard of many people talking positive about it. Mostly I’ve seen people trying to switch out. sigh To CAR or not to CAR. Then there is the trading.

Got assigned to Dykstra.

I already know that it’s the closest to Campus (I’m an engineering major BTW) but how is the hall itself? From the description, it seems like it doesn’t have that much going for it while other building have a bunch of amenities. Overall, is it a nice place to live (relative to other Halls) and how close is it to the other Halls if we have friends there?

I got assigned to Dykstra too, triple.

I’m a little worried because on my housing application, I only specified that I wanted a double, but I ended up with a triple. Is this common?

I heard that Dykstra is the loudest res. hall and I’m a pretty quiet person that needs space/silence to study. I hope this isn’t going to be a disaster…thinking of switching with somebody haha ><
