Im a transfer student and I was wondering if submitting my housing request 3 weeks before the deadline will help my chances of getting the housing I want? Or do they do a lottery with everyone in it after June 1st?

Depends which building you get. Courtside has private bathrooms while Delta Terrance is shared (shared in the sense that the bathroom is shared between 2 rooms, not the whole floor) and I don’t know what Canyon Point is like. Sunset has the reputation of being less social and more quiet. I enjoyed it but spent most of my time socializing outside of dorms.

This is very common as most freshmen get triples. There are plenty of places near the dorms to study it is just a question of whether you want to walk to them whenever you want to study rather than do it in your room. I believe Dykstra is the oldest dorm building so it is lacking some of the shine and polish the other buildings have.

I’m guessing it won’t help your chances but I don’t know much about housing for transfer students.

To anyone looking to do a CAR, I knew someone freshman year who was able to change from a triple to a double so it isn’t impossible but he was the only person I knew who was successful.

i’m a first year student and i got put into a sproul triple. i heard the dorm is full of second-years and it’s not that social. should i try to transfer?

i heard it’s the best residence hall, and that’s why there’s so many second years. But there will also be a lot of freshmen too. Don’t Worry. so No.

hi i’m a freshman and i got assigned de neve plaza, though i really wanted a res hall or maybe a high rise plaza (hedrick summit, rieber vista or terrace) so i’m thinking of submitting a CAR. how does the CAR work? is it by lottery system or is it better to turn things in earlier?
and if my CAR gets rejected, can I try again? because I want anything BUT de neve…so on my CAR i’m ranking
- rieber hall
- sproul hall
- rieber terrace
and if i dont get any of them, i probably want to get rieber vista or maybe even hedrick summit. so has anybody submitted a CAR before?

I’m a transfer (about to turn 20) and just sent in my housing preference today. I went with res hall, then plaza, then suite…excited to see what I get…for some reason, being stuck with a bunch of freshman doesn’t matter much to me, I’m not THAT old…i hope

I’m a transfer and my friend and I want to get a double plaza with a private bath. What are the chances that we’ll be put together and get the room that we want?

I got assigned to Dykestra. Like someone else asked, is there anyone who could give some input on what I can expect? Also, I am supposed to sign an acknowledgment that there will be construction going on. That doesn’t sound good at all! Any thoughts? Thanks!

QUESTION!

due to financial situations at home i wasn’t able to accept my housing offer in time. I was going to accept it today before 4, but more difficulties were in the way.

I got in with the Alumni Scholarship which guarantees housing. If I go on the Housing Lottery do I have a good chance of getting it? And are those on the Housing Lottery generally given housing? Also, when would I find out if my application has been accepted?

I’m an international 3rd year student and I’ve been told by american friends that juniors and senior generally move off campus into university-owned apartments or private apartments etc. Is this true? I just want to be around people my age! If it’s not true, what kind of on-campus housing do they generally go for? And what are the UCLA off-campus apartments like?

Cheers

I got Rieber Vista…need to go check it out asap…hope there’s a few transfers out there w/ me ; )

I got rieber terrace anyone else got it?

I’m a transfer who requested a triple with a private bath and ended up in De Neve, which is pretty much where I want to be.

However, looking at the interactive [campus map](<a href=“UCLA Housing Tour - For Students”>http://www.uclahousingtour.com/), it looks like there are pics of rooms from Delta Terrace mixed in with what are supposed to be the De Neve Plaza pics! Further, it SERIOUSLY looks like the triples in Hendrick Summit (which actually look like they were photographed in Hendrick…I guess it could be either Rieber, though) are way bigger than the triples in De Neve. I actually haven’t seen pics of a bona fide De Neve triple in the interactive map thing (certainly haven’t seen a room set up like a triple, at least). But from looking only at the double-furnished rooms–because those are pretty much the only pics they have even in rooms labeled as triples–these are some tiny rooms in De Neve! Especially if they are the same ones they use for triples (and I can only assume they are). Man, those triple rooms in Hendrick Summit are really spacious-looking.

Am I just paranoid? Does anyone actually know and have experience with the possible differences between the different sizes of the plaza rooms?

^ [Square Footage of rooms on campus](<a href=“Square Footage of Rooms in On-Campus Housing”>Square Footage of Rooms in On-Campus Housing)

You get about 1’5"x10" extra space in Summit.

I live in Summit now, and I’ve been to De Neve. You do notice the rooms is slightly smaller. (ie. Your bed would be closer to your roomie(s) on the otherside of the room.) But I don’t think it’s too much of a difference.

how much is de neve?

Is De Neve one of the dorms with those old-looking, all-white cabinets/cupboards that are skinny and crammed together near the entrance to the room? The ones that start from the ceiling (and I think go to the floor) in this corner near the entryway? They look difficult for people (three, to be exact) to divide space up.

@johnny

Costs of a [triple in De Neve]( http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1004365).

Costs of a [double in De Neve]( http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1004364).

So I am not so sure about a triple. I still want to try it though. If after the first week I dont like it Can I get out of the contract? I know Im gonna be out some money but still is it possible?

@Alexikoma, No. De Neve is suites. They’ve got a sliding door closet in the hallway & one under-loft closet/wardrobe for triples.

Also, I felt Hedrick Summit (NOTE, no N in Hedrick, to save yourself from some potential embarassment), RT, RV were bigger rooms than De Neve - but that’s in part because you’re sharing a bath between two rooms as opposed to private bath.

The rooms aren’t huge. You’ll adjust and live with it and be fine. If you can handle it… well… can’t say what I think on this forum.

what meal plan are you guys getting? Figured I’d go 19 P and make sure I don’t go hungry this quarter…hit me up if you ever need an extra swipe
