i already posted this in the college admissions forum, but i wanted to get some feedback from people more interested in lehigh…

I just got rejected, not deferred, from Wharton ED, and it made me realize that my chances for Duke and Princeton RD are virtually non-existant.
All of my stats are good except for my 2110 sat… so i’ve narrowed it down to either Lehigh or BC.

Lehigh is closer, and i think that i could possibly get some merit scholarships there.

My dilemma is as follows: I woud love to attend either school, and i dont want to risk not getting into either. I’m considering applying ED round two to Lehigh. Do you think it’s worth the commitment just to secure a spot at one of those schools?

Stats:

Very competitive public school
SAT: M 750 CR 690 W 670
GPA: 3.7 UW 4.42/5 W
Rank: 52/897

Will graduate with 7 varsity letters
Captain of the lacrosse team, varsity since grade 9
won multiple awards for lacrosse

Started my own business with nothing but a business plan, now i co-own the LLC - brought in nearly 50K last year

Volunteer firefighter

President of FBLA - Won state awards in 10th and 11th grade

Various awards and work experiance

any input would be appreciate, i just cant seem to make a decision

last year i was making a decision between BC and Lehigh in april. i had been accepted to BC early but still couldnt decide where i wanted to go.

i think if youre not 100% sure you want to go to lehigh then you shouldnt apply ED. i know of at least 2 people from my hs last year who applied ED to lehigh with lower stats than you and got in. and i think you would be accepted if you applied EDII

they are both wonderful schools in every way, both socially and academically. i picked BC over lehigh for a couple of reasons, number one though was the location. theres nothing really around lehigh and boston is right at your doorstep at BC. i wanted something completely different, change of scenery instead of lehigh which a good amount of the kids are from NJ like me. i was also drawn to the school spirit and big DI sports. and my mom liked that it was jesuit.

one of my best guy friends from hs is at lehigh now. he got into the joint engineering and business honors program with i think a $15,000 scholarship a year. he loves it there and is able to keep up with the very demanding academics and still goes out 3 times a week at least (if thats your scene).

one last thing, admissions to BC this year seems even crazier than last year. i was reading some of the EA decisions and was shocked at what quality of students were being deffered/denied. so admissions isnt guarenteed for you at BC but you do have a good shot. check out both the schools, visit. good luck

i really appreciate your input, as of now i'm leaning more towards lehigh because it's only an hour and a half from my house and i don't really want to go too far from home. I was wondering if applying to the binding ED II option would increase or decrease my chances for merit based scholarship, because i always assumed scholarships were used as recruiting tools, and why shoud lthey ned to entice someone that is already required to matriculate

Usually if you apply ED they will decrease the chances of a scholarship/financial aid because they know you must come anyway. At least that's what I've heard, and if financial aid is something you're looking into, I probably would stick to regular decision and keep all options open. Who knows, you might even get into a better school if you don't apply ED anywhere. I decided to apply EA for BC and then not apply to Lehigh. The social scene didn't gel with me.
Good luck (if you haven't already decided.)

BC is ranked higher than lehigh for business (BC 13ish Lehigh 20 i believe), just throwing that out there for what its worth

ive visited (and applied to both) and must say that IMO BC blows lehigh out of the water. there's a stronger sense of community and spirit at BC, and they really emphasize giving back to the community (things i really like about a school). lehigh was nice, but it just really didnt live up to BC. i would apply RD to both so you're not binded to lehigh, i think you'll be able to get into both schools.

the key is that you have to visit both schools, i wouldnt toss BC out of the picture just yet

ED is only for those that are 100% sure that they want to go.

I will tell u right now that ur stats seem average for a BC applicant, so BC may seem more of a 50/50 chance of getting in. Ur EC's however, may push u towards admissions.

Boston College has more prestige that Lehigh, so im sticking that out there too.

I think since u cant decide, just apply RD to both, and look at the Fin. Aid packages.
