Hey, I know this is unimportant but I'd really like to know how much this affects my chances: MIT requires a 90 minimum and 110 recommended TOEFL score. I scored 108, and was wondering if, because it's below the recommended baseline, I will be hurt. I did something stupid and walked in the room without a single clue how the test would be and what should I do, and I'm confident I could've scored a lot better. I'm also aware that the TOEFL is not meant to rank students, only assess their ability of understanding/speaking the language, but it's not crazy to assume that something may happen if I get a score below the recommended one, so I'd like to hear your opinion (and maybe if I'm lucky some input from @MITChris ). Thanks!

Uh, nvm. Just saw the recommended is 100, not 110.

I recommend you take up golf. Once you hit the ball, it’s going wherever it’s going, and there’s no point stressing about it.

I’m going to use that @MITPhysicsAlum

By all means, please do so. I see students, here and elsewhere, stressing out about things that are no longer within their control. Nothing good can come of this.

@MITPhysicsAlum:
I too love your post.
I got bashed a month ago for being a supporter of Marilee Jones. But she invested an enormous amount of time and energy trying to reduce the stress for college applicants, both at MIT and beyond. I applaud any post here that helps to de-stress a poster’s obsessive worries.
