Regents' & Chancellor's Scholarship

So what if you are considered for this scholarship? Is your chance of admittance higher? The brochure said: “admissions applications are reviewed by a faculty committee and used for the initial competitive review for the R&C Scholarship.” 1000 applicants are considered and have the chance to come to berkeley for an interview and an overnight stay. 200 gets it. Anyone else receive this in the mail besides me?

I did. I'm not positive, but I think it pretty much means you're accepted...

No, no e-mail for Cal about that.

But I did find out that I got the Chancellor's Scholarship which pays 75% of in-state fees for UC Riverside. It's not Cal, but it's a financially secure and academically sound.

I also received a letter for Berkeley's Regents and Chancellor's Scholarship. I think it says that it's only full tuition if the candidate demonstrates financial need, otherwise it's only 1000 dollars per year, but there are other benefits.

What are some of these benefits for those of us not privileged to receive this e-mail?

Were you notified by email? And to those who were notified, do you live in Northern Cal or SoCal?

I live in northern california, really close to Berkeley. I got an envelope in the mail today.

I got one in the mail today too... what date are your guys' interviews on?

mine is on the seventeenth, i think. i haven't made a confirmation. did they give you a choice? or did they just assign you a date?

From NorCal, about 20 mins (on a good traffic day) from berkeley.

It seems like everyone that has gotten it is close to Berkeley. For SoCal people, it'll probably arrive Monday or Tuesday at latest. Congrats to the people who have gotten through the first round and have been offered an interview!

i live a couple hours away from berkeley and mine's on the tenth.

My interview is scheduled for 9 am at the International Coffee House near UC Berkeley campus on 3/17. I think I might do the OHP thing on 3/16 just to get some free food! I lived like 15 minutes away from CAL. I don't think we have a choice on the interview dates. So congratulation to the 1000 candidates who are being considered for this scholarship. Is CAL your 1st choice?

"What are some of these benefits for those of us not privileged to receive this e-mail?"

-Monetary award: a 4-year scholarship which meets the scholar's full financial need. Students with no financial need receive a $1000 honorary scholarship. Renewable.

-Housing: receive guaranteed housing in a university residence hall. housing and dining services honor housing preferences whenever possible.

-faculty sponsor: scholars are assigned a faculty sponsor who guides scholars on their long-term academic and professional journey.

-Scholars Association: may join the RCSA which links scholars by sponsoring social events and service projects. offers professional development through resume and interview workshops and professional events such as the fall Alumni Netoworking Reception. help students build the skill set that wil help them with their future careers. new scholars are paired up w/ upper-division scholars for academic and personal support.

-financial aid advising

so just sounds like a lotta cool resources for mentorship and guidance.

Congrats everyone! I got one of the letters yesterday too (live about 45 minutes away from Cal). My calc teacher was telling us what LoserKev said, that it means almost a guaranteed acception. Can anyone else offer their $0.02 on this?

mine's on the 9th... see you all there!

What is the selection criteria?

Congrats to all who received an invitation.

Were you guys also invited to apply for UCLA Regents?

yeah i applied for UCLA Regents

I live about 30 mins away from Cal and got one. I probably wont interview though.

CAL was the only UC i applied to so no UCLA Regents for me!
