Choice of division (College of Letters and Science, College of Engineering, etc.) and choice of major within the College of Engineering does come into play as far as frosh admission selectivity at Berkeley goes. While EECS is a very large department, it is also a very popular major (and the department’s capacity also has to handle L&S CS majors).

Here’s another data point for those trying to find a pattern:

UCB Regents’ invite–yes
UCB Leadership invite–no (DID check the box for “Student who has demonstrated academic excellence as well as leadership in extracurricular activities”)

For those who got the regents email, did you guys get an email from current regents students about the benefits of regents?
Some of my classmates did but I didn’t so I dunno if I should be worried that this means I’m not being seriously considered for the actual scholarshipm

@calbearsmom Understood the process can be “holistic”, but EC and Awards are good too - including a TEDx talk, AIME qualifier, charity concert, Regional level winner in FTC etc. That deepens the curiosity, if there are other factors.

@nimble09 Local California student. Yes, got leadership invite.

@ucnalumnus Thanks for confirming my suspicion that choice of major does matter.

If any EECS regent invitees can share a brief profile, that would help.

There is a UCI regents too, if you login to your UCI account, on the right side, where it says “Campuswide Honors”
there is also a box that indicates you are a Regents Scholar (if you are one).

Rec’d UCB Regents Invite: 4.0 (UW), 4.27 (Capped), 4.81 (Uncapped), ACT 33, Chem 760, Math II 760. Solid EC and volunteering with leadership, good feedback on my essay, no hardship. Did not get leadership invite. EECS Major, California resident.
