I graduated from FSU back in 2008, and it seems that now more than ever I really, really, regret no attending UF when I had the chance. Mostly it was because of the near-full ride that I was offered by FSU, but also because my friends from HS were going to FSU and I wanted to play it safe and stay with them, rather than going out on my own and starting completely fresh at another school. You an chalk it up to being scared of staying in the dorms with strangers, not having a lot of friends around, whatever.

But frankly, I really think that I should have spent a little more and went to UF when I had the opportunity. The difference would have been 5k/year (which is the difference for room and board seeing as I got 100% BF at both schools) not to mention the better overall reputation. It seems that people down here think you're a genius if you go to UF. Not to mention, most importantly, the sports. I missed out on all those national titles for no good reason. It's just such a morale killer knowing that I could have been privy to all of that and passed it up for such negligible reasons.

It just sucks knowing that I had the clear decision to attend #1 and instead settled for #2. So long as I'm down here, people will always think that either a) I couldn't get into UF or b) was foolish enough not to attend when I had the chance. And it doesn't help that the obvious discrepancy is always being reinforced by Gator alumni (but rightfully so, since it is the truth after all).

I'm not trying to make this into a sob story, nor am I trying to garner sympathy from anyone, but I really don't know how to deal with this regret. My parents won't listen to me, thinking that there's no difference at all between the schools, and my friends probably could care less about this stuff. Feels like I have nobody to talk to about this stuff which explains why I'm here.

So I guess my question is: What's the best way to deal with this? It's almost always on my mind and I'm always going to feel as if I made the worst mistake of my life. I'm only here because I'd probably get banned on the FSU board for trolling, so perhaps I can get some different perspective.

There are many sayings that can be posted here to help you, but frankly put, (and im not trying to be mean at ALL when I say this (seriously)) GET OVER IT.

Whats done is done. I was kind of in the same situation when I was applying for college. I got into UT Austin, but I chose UF in the end (even though UT has a REALLY good engineering school). Money was not really an issue since I would have just transferred guardianship from my parents in Florida to my family in Texas and pay in-state tuition.

Did I regret it? At first, yes. But then I realized my years at UF are going to be **** bad if I live in regret for the rest of my life.

Since you’ve already graduated, were you able to find a job in the field you studied? If not, take the GRE and apply to UF for graduate school.

i don’t think money is a negligible factor. i chose fsu over uf for financial reasons and have no regrets. pretty much all of my friends are going to uf (definitely not geniuses btw hahahaaa). it’s the truth in your head. get over it. you’re not going to do well in life if you think about stupid **** like this. stop thinking about what’s done. you’re going to let this affect you because you CHOOSE to.

maybe see a therapist or something. lol i don’t know what else to say.

If you had graduated from UF instead of FSU, you probably now would be saying you regret not having gone to FSU for some reason. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Heck, most people in Florida can’t distinguish between a Winn-Dixie and a Nordstroms, never mind telling the difference between FSU and UF.

I don’t think the discrepancy is analogous to Michigan-Michigan State at all (Michigan is the #2 public in the country with national prestige and Michigan State is similar to FSU), but yes there is a discrepancy.

“Since you’ve already graduated, were you able to find a job in the field you studied? If not, take the GRE and apply to UF for graduate school.”

I’m already attending a graduate program at a different school altogether. Besides, it’s not the same as actually attending as an undergrad. You have the name on the diploma, but I don’t think any undergrad experience in the history of all colleges could compare to the typical experience of a Florida Gator from 2005-2009.

If there is a positive to be gained out of this, it is that I learned a good lesson out of the whole ordeal - which is not to base your decision solely on finances or marginal reasons such as proximity to friends from high school. You gotta look for the total package and what you’re getting for your money. The best thing I can do at this point is to do my best to prevent others from making the same mistake I did and move on with my life. It may take a while to cope with it completely, considering how UF is everywhere these days, but it’ll happen eventually.

How pathetic is it that some UF â– â– â– â– â– made up an account to post this non-sense. Look at the bright side, Disgruntled Gate, you could always wear a pair of jean-shorts and pretend you attended Hogtown College.

Anyone who takes this post seriously is a bigger tool than the OP.

This is one of the most transparent ■■■■■posts I’ve ever seen.

lol - Pretty soon we’ll have a “DisgruntledGator” post the same message about UF on the FSU board.

In reality, FSU would let any student go in a moment, as would UF. Students make conscious decisions to stay at one school or another each and every time you make that tuition payment and show up for class.

I’m a little surprised anyone actually responded.

Nope, I’m a real alum dissatisfied with the product I received in exchange for my tuition payments. Just trying to get this stuff off my chest, since apparently nobody in my personal life can offer any sort of valuable counsel on the subject. As I said before, if I had posted it on the FSU board (which I wanted to post on originally for non-■■■■■■■■reasons) I would have been banned on the spot.

I’m not saying that FSU is a bad school by any means - it’s a pretty decent state school that has produced three Rhodes Scholars in four years. But at the same time I’m not going to be in denial and think it’s at the overall level of Florida at this point in time. I honestly think that unless you’re seeking a specific specialty program at FSU (lib arts, fine arts, meteorology, film, whatever) it really makes no sense to go there when you have the opportunity to attend UF. I’m hoping to offer a unique perspective on the UF/FSU debate that you don’t normally see a lot of and hopefully one that undecided high schoolers can appreciate when contemplating their decision.

And for the record, I wanted to transfer after junior year (which is when I was finally starting to realize that I made the wrong choice) but at that point it would have been fiscally imprudent to transfer due to the increased class load for my major. Believe me that I started seeing the writing on the wall when the Gators started winning back-to-back-to-back championships in two different sports.

It is obviously a â– â– â– â– â– , that I do not deny.

However, if I made that account I would have posted this thread on the FSU board. Regardless, I have gotten bored of â– â– â– â– â– â– â– â– Noles. That is like taking candy from a baby.

IF you FSU die hards are offended I would recommend stop bumping this to the top of the board.
