Hi, I’m planning on attending Arkansas in the fall of 2013, so I’ve still got plenty of time. I was just wondering, which dorms are better? I want to join a sorority, and think that maybe the greek life TLC in Reid would be fun? Has anyone lived here? How was it? And what about Futrall? How do they compare?

I toured Futrall on my last visit. I liked it because it was small and very close to sorority row. It’s coed. My friend goes to UA and said Reid is the farthest dorm and girls only. I also want to join a sorority but since bid day is before classes start, not sure about the TLC.

Yeah, I’d rather live in a coed dorm. But it seems like everything I read online and stuff about the dorms, almost no freshmen stay in Futrall? I’m not sure if it’s freshmen only or not though… But it would be terrible to stay in Reid and then somehow not get into a sorority.

My friend says Futrall was all freshmen last year. And that she thought Humphreys (where she stayed), Yocum and Pomfret were all freshmen too. When we toured Futrall, they were only showing us a RA single room, but some girls on the floor let our tour group go inside their rooms. The girls we met were freshmen and in sororities. My worry with the Greek TLC at Reid is that if you don’t get in a sorority, it would suck to have to participate in the TLC activities all year. Go look in the best freshmen dorms discussion. Someone posted on Futrall too.

Well I looked on the school’s website and if i understood correctly, only 30 people, the first to sign up, get in to the TLC. Doesn’t seem right though. Anyway, I wonder, if you go through rush, if it’s guaranteed you’ll get into a sorority? Or if you may not get a bid? And thanks, I’ll go check out the freshman dorms discussion.

Getting into a sorority is not guaranteed. I’ve been reading a lot about it at GreekChat.com and it says UA is very competitive. If we go to UA and rush, we need to have recommendations for each sorority to have the best chance.

Wow, I have no idea how to get recommendations! I hope it all works out.

Google “alumnae panhellenic association” in cities or counties close to you. In my area, they hold a workshop every February where you can meet with people who will write recommendations for you. You bring your resume, transcript, photo and they will help you. Search arkansas in the greekchat website. I didn’t realize how competitive it is. The other school I’m considering does not have as many girls rushing so it’s not as big a deal.

Check out the links at the bottom of that page. It has info on resumes and recommendations for rush.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I checked out greekchat.com and read up on it. I did not think it would be that bad! Apparently, you need at least two recs for each chapter. But, someone said that they went into rush with only two recs total and still got into the sorority she wanted. I’m going on a tour of the University of Arkansas tomorrow and they will have representatives from the greek life for me to talk to so I’ll try and ask them about it too.

Also, do you think it’s too early to start looking for people to write rec letters? I won’t be going to college until fall 2013. But I’m basically 100% sure I’ll be going to Arkansas.

I think it’s not too early to start looking for people who can write them, but it’s too early have them mailed to the sororities. Our local panhellenic will start collecting resumes in February so that the people writing them have a few months to get them done. I know people personally who will write them for four of the chapters but I have to depend on the panhellenic for the rest. I’m leaving now for Fayetteville. I’ll be at the 101 tomorrow too. Have fun!!!

Oh, awesome! Well thanks for all the help, and you have fun too!
