I listed linguistics as my first choice major, but was denied that and given my second choice - electrical engineering. From what I've heard, the College of Liberal Arts is one of the easier colleges to get into, while Cockrell is a bit more selective.

Does anyone have an explanation for this crazy phenomenon? I'm shocked.

Maybe my essays sucked? Maybe it's because I'm coming from a school that has a focus on mathematics and science? (Though, I'm not shabby in English, AND I've been taking linguistics course.) Perhaps it's because I'm a girl, and they don't have many female applicants?

Furthermore, does anyone know the process for switching to the COLA? I heard it doesn't require an internal transfer, just for some paperwork to be done. Silly UT.

I’m in the opposite situation - I was Biology first choice, and ended up in my second choice Linguistics. I was fine with either but was somewhat shocked as I heard that CNS was easier to get into.

(For reference, my stats are: 3.7 gps u/w, 4.98 w, 2100 SAT (1400 m+r), 12% of class).

McCombs and Cockrell tend to review their applicants more holistically and in depth than the other colleges do, so that may have something to do with it. Transferring shouldn’t be hard, but there’s really no rush. You can do it once you get here in the fall and have an advisor who can tell you exactly what to do.
