Rejection Appeals 2010!

well yeh in that case I would gladly pick UCLA or Berkeley

konakup, you should definitely appeal… I saw your post in the stats thread and I’m sure they’d definitely reconsider their decision if you included recs since you were missing a required component of your application.

not appealing. USC used to be my top choice.
i burned the letter and information sheet.
and now I am moving on.
BU sent a lovely package to me today.

dream: ahh, maybe. I really gung-ho about it, but I do have UCLA. I’m not sure if it’s worth all the trouble to appeal when I might not go there.

I might though. Think I’ll talk to my counselor tomorrow to figure things out.

does anyone know if a letter of recommendation is necessary
i know its not required but i wonder if it helps…
and senioritis has definitely brought down my transcript
oh boy, this is gonna be difficult

My S appealed last year. He asked the principal to write a letter for him (by the way she is a USC alum!), also his counselor. His counselor emailed an admissions rep at USC that she knew as well. By the way, my S called the admissions office to ask if he should appeal. The guy he spoke to looked up his file and encouraged him to appeal. He told him to explain any hardships that might have influenced his academic performance and to include something personal about himself such as unusual hobby. My S wrote about the death of his grandfather and his love of cooking. He even included a recipe! He also included a photo of himself and a newspaper clipping of an award he won. He used Cardinal and gold paper. Might sound silly but he thought it might show his passion for SC. he got accepted as a Spring Admit 2010! Good luck to all of you!

How good is financial aid for applicants that are accepted via appeal?

I know right? That BU package is absolutely lovely, although I’m not attending the school. But their letters and websites are really nice looking, in my opinion.

@mimizist yes! it was a nice touch in comparison to the small letter from SC.
and their website/admissions way less confusing than USC. just my opinion

^bbgg,
do you mind sharing his appeal letter through PM?

^ I was wondering the same thing. :)

No problem. Just PM me. My S has given his approval.

does anyone know if you can appeal a spring admit to be admitted in fall?

I think they automatically do that… try calling them and asking about it.

rrraaayyy27, it should be in the letter you received. Quoted from a friend:

“if space becomes available, we may invite a few spring enrollees to join the class in the fall. all students who accept the spring offer will be considered for any openings, so you do no need to send any supplementary information or petition other than returning the reply card”

if anyone wants to read my gf successful appeal from last year, PM me

hey everyone! this is actually tbibbs’s girlfriend. a year ago today, i was in the same boat as you all are right now…i received that dreaded small envelope in the mail, i was devastated. USC was my dream school so i decided to appeal and was successful! i started here in the fall and it’s without a doubt one of the best decisions i’ve ever made. so if you want to read the successful appeal PM either tbibbs or me and i’m also more than willing to answer any other questions about the appeal process or USC. good luck everyone!

Hey jdub! I was wondering if its worth the appeal…I have decent grades. I do all honors/AP classes but because of that the grades weren’t as fabulous as others. USC is my number one school and I have done soooo many extra-curriculars throughout h.s. I’ve done debate for 4 years(won over 30 awards and debate capatain 2 years) Science Fair for 5 years and placed 3rd at CA State level. Also NHS secretary and volunteered over 200 hours. I’ve done research on ovarian cancer for the past three years and had a profesor at USC write a letter of recommendation for me. I am also a first generation college student…do you think my extra curriculars will do me well enough? or do they only accept kids with the highest grades under appeals??

^bunnygirl: you got rejected with those types of ECs? How was your GPA and SAT score? Were your essays bad or something? I would imagine not if you were debate captain, and could probably speak and write eloquently.

I would definitely appeal if you think your stats are on par with USC’s.

thanks knonakup…i thought my essays were really great! but my SAT’s/GPA weren’t the greatest like i’m hearing others have…and i have other extracurricular/awards but i didn’t want to write them all down.not to sound rude or anything. My GPA is a 3.83 so not exactly the 4.0 material like i’ve been hearing from others…
