Hey, I got wait listed two days ago, but was just wondering if there was any stats out there...

Chances of getting in after getting wait listed?

Hey, I got wait listed two days ago, but was just wondering if there was any stats out there...

Chances of getting in after getting wait listed?

I'd like to know too...and just wondering, how did the waitlist package look like?

and wow, I just saw your stats...were you waitlisted for CAS? because with those stats you should be in..

well, the percentage yield for NYU is between 40-50%, 44% for Stern..so those on the waitlist have hope cuz about half of the accepted kids will decide to go elsewhere

I think it's less, I'm pretty sure the yield is like 37 % or so, but doesn't really matter, just means you get more of a chance to get off the wait list.

what does the financial aid look like for the waitlisted if they come off the list?

my rejection letter states that i think like 4200 kids got accepted, and like 36,000 applied

wait... that's like an unthinkably small percentage of the applicant pool as a whole! If they accept 8800 kids (if yield is 50%), then there left 22600 kids who will be wait listed?

There is no way the waitlist is that long...doesn't matter how many applications they received. They are definetely rejecting more people than that!

I was waitlisted from tisch...I don't know how likely it is that I will be accepted. My parents already called the school though and the woman said that they don't rank the wait listers and instead just pull out the application and re evaluate. I don't know if that's just how Tisch does it.

"my rejection letter states that i think like 4200 kids got accepted, and like 36,000 applied"

i have a hard time believing this low amount of acceptances, as the class of 2011 has almost 5000 members. Also, no way is NYU 11% acceptances.

colleges like to say that "x amount of students applied for y amount of places in the class of 2012," but NYU's yield is below 50%. so, they would really have to accept more than twice that amount.

USA Today (College acceptance rates: How many get in? - USATODAY.com) says that NYU accepted 12,008 for the class of 2008. I'm sure there's more recent data that shows what they've done with the larger pool of applicants, but I'm guessing the number of acceptances is near 10,000

that's 2006's data

Last Year:
~34,200 applied & 12,600 accepted - acceptance rate at 37% for 2007 admissions

This Year:
~37,000 applied & 10,300 accepted - acceptance rate at 28% for 2008 admissions

my bad, haha

where did you get those numbers?

haha, basically, that read's as I'm not going to get into Stern ED next year.
sucks.

stupid private school brings down my GPA.

Wow.

That is quite a drop.

This year NYU reduced its acceptances because A) more admitted freshmen enrolled last year than anticipated and B) NYU attempts to boost its selectivity rate.

humm...
I'd be interested in reading the article that accompanied that announcement...

also, does that mean that more waitlist-ers will get in?
I mean, I doubt that half the kids who get in will matriculate.

Er... I don't think the admissions rate was 37% last year, and the data for this year isn't out yet. Unless if by "this year," you mean the Class of 2011? That doesn't make sense, though, because that's 2007 admissions But the stats for last admissions cycle, according to the NYU site:

Admissions Statistics (for NYU overall -- not by school)

* Percent Offered Admission: 29.2%
* Number of Early Decision Applications: 2,990
