I’m currently a high school senior and was hoping to apply to FSU. Can anyone calculate my chance of getting in?
GPA: 3.1 unweighted, 3.7 weighted, 3.1 FSU calculated (<-where they only count all core courses and languages)
SAT scores: 1830
Gender: Female
Race: Asian
Classes: All honors, AP, and DE
Clubs: AFJROTC (recurring staff positions held), Junior Class President, Senior Women, Green State, AVID Women, Weightlifting, and Marathon High
Senior Schedule: IT class, Guitar, Physics Honors, AP Environmental Science, AFJROTC, Human Growth and Development(DE), Topics in Mathematics(DE), English (DE)
I also plan on doing the optional essay and resume in order to help my SSAR and am a child of military family with a 100% disabled military parent. I also have approximately 140-150 community service hours. My intended major is also Biochemistry.
Another question I have is that online on the registrar.fsu.edu undergraduate admissions page it said that any Dual Enrollment grade below a C/2.0 is “cause for concern, and could prevent the applicant from being admitted to the University, or cause the offer of admission to be rescinded.” I failed my first ENC1101 class (with a D) but am retaking it now, so what I guess I’m asking is how will that harm my chances at getting in? Do they mean that any grade that is a C or below is cause for concern, or only a college GPA of a 2.0 or lower? If I am holding an A in that class by the the time they are looking through applicants will that help my chances? Do I at least qualify for the Summer program if not the Fall program?
Any input is welcome, I’m just crazy nervous that my one screw up may or may not be the deciding point on whether or not I get into my dream school…
I think your chances are decent, Astrrogwen. I think where you could really shine is in your essay. Maybe something along the lines of how you and your family have coped with a parent’s disability? The challenges of being from a military family, yet finding away to put down “roots” wherever you go. (having to adapt, etc.) How when you’re a military brat, “the world” is your community.
Or if you have something else special go for it! Make it sparkle with your voice and your passions.
I think that will put you over the top.
Good luck!
Thanks for replying! I’m currently writing my essay on my experience with my JROTC unit and how it’s helped me connect better with others, give back to the community, gain leadership experience, etc. My main concern is my GPA and my senior year math credit. I took and passed AP Calculus in my Junior year, so I had no other math to go to other than Liberal Arts Math. I hope they see that and understand, but they’ve yet to reply to the multiple voicemail’s I’ve had to leave them. Do you have any thoughts on this? As well as the ‘D’ grade I got in my first go around in ENC1101?
I’m not sure I understand the math thing-- are you currently taking liberal arts math? Whatever for? If you’ve made it through AP calc as a junior you should have had enough math credits to graduate without the lower math class.
Aside from that-- FSU is working very hard at being a veteran friendly school; I would assume that would at lest somewhat extend to dependents of disabled vets. Your GPA is a little sketchy and for that reason I might suggest you apply for summer rather than fall. Also, as an AVID kid, you might qualify for the CARE program? FSU’s a big school and if you’re able to get the extra support it’s worth looking at.

Yes I am currently taking it. I didn’t have any other math class I could take on my high school’s campus from DE as I can’t drive yet (I can’t afford a car, let alone insurance) Also I’m thinking I may have recalculated my FSU GPA wrong as I’m sure it has to be higher than my current HS GPA since it’s weighted.
The FSU GPA will be only in core academic classes.
