Request for Additional Material: Senior Grades

I just received a letter from SC today explaining that after conducting a "preliminary review" of my application, they would like me to send them my first term senior grades before they take "final action on [my] application". Did anyone else get this letter? Also, does this mean anything at all?! Thanks for the input and best of luck to all of the applicants! March can't come soon enough!

I got one as well! Though two other applicants from my school did not. This only makes me more nervous?

My daughter got one too. I assumed they sent it to everyone, but now that you said this is not true, I am very nervous.

I never recieved a letter, but when I got the “no scholarship” email, it told me to send my mid year report.

I am in a similar situation. My parents also assumed it was sent to everybody, but by the wording, I was less sure of that.

If it is not sent to everybody, my hunch would be that it would be sent to “borderline” applicants who they are on the fence on. That would be my guess, at least, though I am not sure.

^ So is it a good or bad thing if they ask for your senior grades?

I’ll just be honest and say that I have no idea. If I am correct in my original assumption, it would be good news if you had considered USC a reach and bad news if you considered USC a safety. If I my original assumption is wrong (which there is a high chance of), then I have no idea. xD

You have to be sympathetic towards the admissions office and think from their point of view. There would be little to no point to send out so much postage to some 40,000 applicants when a high percentage of them they have already denied. Likely these letters go out to those who are already in the accepted pile and whom they want to ensure can keep high grades and stay focused even after they have accomplished 11th grade (the last grade on transcripts). I’d also agree with Adodie in that these letters are sent to the borderline applicants who they need just one more semester of grades to decide if the candidate is right. Either way, let’s hope you did well senior year!!

This makes me both excited and nervous! Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I like cornerstates assessment the best. I don’t think my daughter is borderline because she had a 4.6 gpa (high school, I think lower for college but still good). It is probably people they are considering accepting and are making sure they didn’t blow off their work during senior year.

Guys, nearly EVERYONE eventually gets this letter. OR gets the same message on their USConnect. A few don’t. Nobody knows why. My son didn’t didn’t get the letter, although his admissions counselor told him he “should have” and he submitted senior grades anyway - he got in, and he had friends who got the grade request who also got in, and some that got the grade request who didn’t get in… every SINGLE variation. Do you see where I’m going here?

If you search, you will see it posted many times that most, if not all students will either get this letter, or they’ll submit their grades anyway (and perhaps that is why they don’t get the letter). Please don’t sweat it!

The Admissions office wants ALL applicants to send in their Sr grades. Regardless of whether you DO or DO NOT receive a letter, email, notice on USConnect -DO send in your grades asap.

Admissions was very clear (imho) that they want all 7th semester grades. I think those who did not send them in aren’t following directions. I sent mine in as I didn’t want them to think I could not follow directions. So, if you haven’t done so—I would send them in:)

For some of us, our semester grades aren’t ready/available yet.

My son is in the same boat. Grades are not ready yet. The admissions office said to have them in by March 1. He also got the letter but none of his friends did. We were also hoping this was a good thing as his grades are not where a lot of yours are.

I would think it is the people with incomplete files that are getting this letter. It has nothing to do with your place in the admit/deny pile. They do a search on files, print a report on those with incomplete records and send the request.

Hey guys I have a question. I submitted the self-report mid year grades on the USC connect page, and they reminded me to have my school mail an official copy to them as well. Is it okay if my high school submits the official transcript online through the Common Application?

A question about this. In the letter it says to submit your mid-year report and one of the options is to do it through the USConnect online. So I did that, do I have to mail a report in addition or is just the online submission enough?
